19 going on 20 time to get insured......please.

Evening all,

I sat all last year in the wrong side of the F27, although (not being big headed) a much better driver that 80percent of the population, my age stopped me getting insured.

This year il turn 20 and having spend nearly every winter night in the shed rebuilding / engineering engine and chassis till frost bite set in - quotes are still mad for even 1000miles of fun.

I'm sure other people my age have had or are having this problem, how are you getting round it? I refuse to sit this summer out in the passenger seat watching my dad squirt the throttle 1/4 open, When I've spend the wrong side of the year in the shed sorting her for the road! No office dad....

Any suggestions or companies you know of would be great, better yet the insurance companies should have interviews of drivers so they can see the chavs they are insuring as a 1.2 corsa that's actually got a 150 break red top in it..... (Much better suited to a kit car I must say).

Moan over, cheers....

Cant help with any companies Im affraid, but I did have your problem and the only thing that made the problem go away was time. Its been 20 years since I was 20 but at least now insurance is cheaper.

It was a couple of years ago but Footman James quoted around £800 for a 17 year old in one of my Furore F1's!! The ridiculous thing is that no one would have insured the same guy in the Toyota MR2 donor for less than about £3k! I believe the company has changed hands now, but they would surely be worth a ring. MSM are also very helpful, speak to Dave & tell him Russ from Furore Cars sent you!
Also it's worth adding your Mum or Dad as a named driver (assuming they are a good insurance risk of course) even if they have no intention of driving the car, this can frequently lower the premium by around 25% in some cases & obviously insure for a minimal mileage, not suggesting the speedo cable could fall off or anything, but Hey, y'know ...........

I no longer run Furore Products or Furore Cars Ltd, but would still highly recommend them for Acewell dashes, projector headlights, dominator headlights, indicators, mirrors etc, best prices in the UK! Take a look at http://www.furoreproducts.co.uk/ or find more parts on Ebay, user names furoreltd & furoreproducts, discounts available for LCB users.
Don't forget Stainless Steel Braided brake hoses, made to your exact requirements in any of around 16 colours. http://shop.ebay.co.uk/furoreproducts/m.html?_dmd=1&_ipg=50&_sop=12&_rdc=1

I got mine through "sure term" - there was a thread on this a while back as I'd never heard of them before.
8000 miles / year, full comp, R1 Indy - £146
But I am 37

Hum quite a few complaints about sureterm on the web, most are quite old eg 2011 so unsure if they have improved since then
