which jap 1000cc for mid engined car

im on the lookout for a 1000cc jap 4 pot bike engine for a new project ive hopefully got (the fury is getting collected tomorrow hopefully)
the project is a mid engined single seater which needs an engine swap, but for budget reasons will stay prop driven with a small prop to rear axle. its exactly what ive been looking for since i entered the kit car scene a few years ago and hopefully ill be collecting it on wednesday. when i will then release some more info and pics.
i have around £2500 for the complete install, including fabricating engine mounts, motor, sump, loom, ecu, power commander, exhaust etc so busas and the like are out of the question. the car already has digi dash and sensors etc so no clocks needed.
what would you guys go for on this budget? reliable power is the key here and not maximum power.
im thinking R1 with 150-160 bhp and baffled sump must be as good as most? any other ideas

GSXR1000 K1/K2 + extreme engines baffle plate.

160 bhp and bags of grunt, treat it like you hate it and it still wants more, good strong gearbox too in my experience.

04-06 R1 should be doable for enough below that money to afford all the other bit's within budget. Should give you 160-170bhp. The 02-03 engines are getting harder to find these days.

ive found an 03 r1 with fresh rebuild from a jedi race car. kevlar clutch, sump baffle, ecu, airbox, power commander, exhaust, loom etc and at a good price! but only put out 150 ish bhp 06 motors seem a bit more powerful

What about a 4xv motor for £700.

The later 'big bang' ones dont really make any more power. Its not my engine just one i've seen listed elsewhere.

There's a Rocket III on here somewhere, OK, it's not 1000cc..... but does it not have a prop output (that might turn the right way for the diff, I don't know) and other simplifying things... along with a lot of torque.
Worth thinking about just for the hell of a uniqueness thing?

... and it has a dry-sump, so perfect for racetracks!

I suspect that Dan is probably restricted to a 1000c lump though due to racing categories.

Malc from yorkshire engines has a 2010 zx10r listed on ebay for 2k that I'm sure he will drop in price to deal direct. They make very good power 180bhp ish iirc. They are a light engine and don't require dry sumping.

In a single seater would you not be running a chain diff ie infinite choice of final drive? If your running a conventional diff then a 3.14 or freelander diff would prob suit. Although I'm sure there are people on here running the kwak with a 3.38 or 3.45 diff. I have a 3.15 lsd lurking in my garage for when my upgraditis kicks in and I finally buy a 10r engine.

you should get one for £1.5k ish.

Why not fit a 1198 ducati lump. surely a 1.2ltr twin can race against a 1000cc 4 like in bike racing classes?
