Chinese hospital

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/world-asia-china-51348297/coronavirus10-days-of-hospital-building-in-60-seconds

Anyone seen this? HSE man/woman would have a major fit with those cranes. But on a more serious note 10 days to build such a facility is trully impressive. HS2 has not even got going 3 years in

Ive not been to mainland China, but have Hong kong, several times. there Bamboo scaffolding is one of the oddest things ive ever seen, but it works, and from memory, up to about 30 floors high, BONKERS !!
health and safety has never been written in China, and the workers were bare foot climbing the scaffolding

But it works, so in the old saying, why change it

steve

And the bamboo is tied together with what looks like woven plastic packing tape!

This is the base of some scaffolding that went up around 30 floors...

WOW

If we made a time lapse like that for just fixing a road, it would take still hours to watch

While I'm sure there's less time being given to safety than there should be, when you have a budget and stop fannying around just get on with a self-contained project in an authoritative way, it's amazing what you can achieve. The Chinese have an incredible work ethic, as a generalization, and don't do committee engineering. It's probably not the best constructed building and it's only a couple of floors so the effort needed is not vast.

Ideal. Bamboo is hollow so theres the fuel rods for starters.

China used more cement between 2011 and 2013 than the U.S. used in the entire 20th Century ! They don't mess about.

^^^^OK, fair point, you got me there. The point I was trying to make that building something fast and cheap, has a cost, counted in human lives, at least 4 in this case.

I was going to reply earlier asking y'all to Google chinese collapsing bridges, there has been a few, I cannot recall hearing/reading about any bridges or building collapsing due to inferior materials or design in the UK. Some sometime has to give.
