4XV/5JJ R1 engine with Pipercross Air box
Digimon - 27/4/16 at 05:40 PM

Good evening all,

I have got a pipercross 600 air box for my 5JJ R1 to replace the foam filter. I have tried the air box on the car briefly and the car bogs down under acceleration, its probably running to rich now

Does anyone have the same setup and know what jets I'm likely to need?

Many Thanks
Simon

Does it clear and go ok at full throttle/higher revs?

If it does you probably need to lower your needles,as this is what regulates part throttle fueling.

unfortunately not, it stops the car dead from reving through its range

Do you know what size main jets are in it?

I would try dropping the needles first,it's easy enough

Got the same problem, have some 145 mains to put in, not got round to it yet so still running std box.
Let me know if you sort it!

Thanks guys, I'll have a look and see what jets I have got fitted I'll also try dropping the needles

How did you get on?

Hi Phil,

Sorry I've not had a chance to remove the carbs and have a look yet, I'm hoping to in the next week or so

Tried one of those on the Locost and it was rubbish tbh. Waste of money and half a day on the rolling road!

You're going to have to drop down well below standard jets. We couldn't find any jets small enough to get it running properly! Cost nearly 20bhp at the wheels.

Doesn't sound good!

To the OP,why are you trying to fit one of these anyway?
What are the supposed benefits?

I'm only looking into fitting this because of the induction noise. I don't want to run the risk of booking a trackday and failing the drive by noise test

One of the other MNR cars has got the same airbox fitted to a 1585cc hayabusa and he's only has a 6bhp loss, i'm hoping my R1 should be ok

I'd be interested to get more details as I still have the airbox and now have a busa engined car. Does this mnr run the tiny cone filter that comes with it or a separate filter?

As far as I know it still has the small cone filter inside, it was mapped at RLM Racing.

Without the airbox was 234bhp & 151Ft.lbs
With the airbox fitted 228bhp& 144Ft.lbs

I have replaced the small cone filter on mine with a bigger ITG cone and a step down silicone hose to try and help it along
