Converting to rose joint track rod ends.

Just an option I'm thinking about. Should the taper in the steering arm be bored out to parallel?

Pretty sure I’ve seen an adapter the has a taper to fit the steering arm with a stud at the wide end of the taper to attach the rose joint?

I've looked at a few Escort kits (which won't be any good for me) and they appear to have just an h/t allen bolt to fix the rose joint to the steering arm. I wouldn't be happy to fit a parallel bolt into a taper.

Just remember forces on the joint, rosejoints are not strong when pulling then ball out of the socket..

It's a well used conversion on rally cars so I would have thought it would be okay.

Perhaps a thick shouldered washer would do the job?

With a straight bolt into a taper it's only going to touch in the tight part so surely it has to flex where there's a gap.

How about machining a tapered item to fit through the steering arm with a securing bolt holding it all together. ?

I think that would be a good solution although simpler to drill out the taper in the steering arm to parallel.

Made me think a bit this one. I was wondering why most track rod ends are tapered. I suspect the answer is to provide a second fail safe if the nut comes undone.

I suspect a straight bolt and a nut with wire or a split pin would do the job. That said I would probably machine up a taper with a straight section then threaded ends. Just feels more elegant. you may well need to build in high alignment busshes/joints as a standard rod end has quite limited missalignment. A safety washer at the top in case the ball pops out (pretty unlikely in my view the load will be tiny).
