Type 9 speedo input

I'm thinking about ditching the smiths dials and getting a digital dash unit. Can I just remove the cable from the gearbox or does it need blanking? If it needs blanking anyone know what would be needed? It's a type 9 btw.
Thanks you

You can just remove the speedo cable or fit a converter that gives an impulse rather than using magnets .

I just created a blank from the cable outer sheath and put a screw in the top of it and tapped around that with self amalgamating tape. You can then still use the circlip to secure it and prevent any dirt ingress.
