I still can't quite believe this - I was driving the wife's tin-top yesterday and the speedo wasn't working

so when we stopped I had a look under the bonnet and found our neighbours pet rabbit

after checking it over I found the transmission the speed sensor cable:


so that should be an easy fix as soon as I find a replacement one (there seems to be 3" of missing wire so I guess thats in the rabbit)

but I also found it had had a good chew on the wires to injectors #2 and #3 - they haven't been cut, but I can see bare copper on all 4 wires
it doesn't look like there are any joints in that part of the loom either


I really doubt it will be worth getting a whole new loom (its a 6.5 year old kia rio, but its also he 'new' car) so whats the collective opinion on what kind or repair would be acceptable ?

If there is enough wire on the plug I would cut out the damage and replace with new. If not find some more plugs and graft them in the same.

I would twist, solder and glue lined heat shrink the joint. It will out live the car. It's not best practice to solder an automotive joint due to vibration but I've never had a problem. Other option is crimp connections, again I would use the ones that are heat shrink.

Their isn't enough length to shorten them unfortunately

the copper itself looked ok so I was half thinking about just de-pinning the plugs then just slipping on some decent heat shrink rather than splice it ?

You would be better off de pinning them and insulating the wires that way you keep the resistance of the wires the same

IŽd use bare crimp connectors, a piece of auto wire and heat shrik, but just Žcause I have the bare connectors.
If I neede to buy, IŽd go for the ones that have Heat shrink sleeves already in place as stated above.
