wiring 1.8 zetec

Hi all,
im planing fitting a standard 1.8 zetec into my locost. The engine is out and now im wondering which wiring will i need from the doner to make the engine run, ( ie what does the ECU need to read of ). I do not require lights etc just the basic running electrics or is it just one big mixed loom for the car, if anyone could help.

cheers

For the injection you will need :

the Edis Box (Depends ion ECU)
The coil Pack
the ECU
the Air Box senor
the Oil Sensor
the crank sensor
the cam sensor
the injectors
Lamda sensor
spark plugs & leads
TPS sensor from the pedel if it is fly by wire

Being the Mondeo you will have the eec-v ecu, thats 104 pins of wiring fun. NO external edis4 unless its an automatic.

http://youtu.be/BKqeCjdBM0w

You need the engine loom from the ecu as you say upto the 42 pin plug on the N/s inner wing. The ecu. You want the ignition key and barrel. Around the key is the Pats Antenna, you want that and the plug with as much wire as you can free up. Whilst your in that area you will also want the OBD2 port / plug with as much wire as you can free up.

Sensors, you want all the ones on the engine, inlet, exhaust. Give me a shout if your not sure. There are a few external sensors to the engine loom but you dont need them / can not fit them. Ie clutch position sensor and fuel tank evap' valve.

If you can fit the inlet manifold in your car it will make it easier and cheaper. If you can fit the engine loom as it comes from the mondeo you will save your self a lot of work.

To chop the loom up and make it fit a car takes me 40 hour or more. To wire that 42 pin plug up is 10 hours or less.

The ecu controles the mondeo alternator aswell but You dont have to use it.

hope that helps.

Brilliant, yes the 42 pin plug looks like loads of fun.........Any chance of some more info on the OBD2 port as cannot find it in the book to find out what it looks like or does. As for the sensors, i have kept most of them in place on the engine and you mentioned the external sensors i.e clutch position sensor and the fuel evaporation valve, do you just leave them unplugged and the engine will still run without them? I want the easiest route possible so i am going to try and use the original inlet manifold and alternator.
Cheers and thanks in advance.

One ive done for a bench engine.

I can plug that into an engine loom with a fuel pump and battery ect and have it running on the garage floor.

http://youtu.be/Pxq4ks2Us_U

I remove all the sensor wiring I dont use. Less chance of shorting, less bulk and looks neater.

I bin the load sensors such as clutch pos' heated windows Air con ect. These up the rpm at idle to stop stalling. I also bin the egr, evap', and anything elts that dumps oil vapour into the inlet manifold for it to go crusty. This does give three error codes in the ecu but doesnt seem to affect it. Being pre OBD2 it has the diagnostics but no MIL light. Its not fully OBD" compliant.

There are other functions such as the smart charge on the alternator. Coolant fan controle. Ac controle aswell as Ac load sense.

Important sensors are.

Maf, Lambda, Tps, Cps, Cam phase, ECT, IAT. And not a sensor but the Iacv. Iat is built into the Maf on the blacktop.

Obd2 function is great as you can plug it up to a cheap scanner and see what its all doing.

Obd2 plug is below steering column. It should be with in reach of the drivers seat on any car.

All a bit random

For ideas on fitting with the standatd inlet see

It needs a dog leg in the steering link of a locost and removing the Y brace in the engine bay.

Yes but I've never done it direct to the 42 pin plug as it puts the ecu over the offside front wheel.

I cut th loom up and move the ecu to the bulk head.

Do you know what goes where on the 42 pin plug,

Or could you give me a list with the numbers and there destination?

Do you make the looms to sell?
