Smiths/Caerbont Oil Pressure Gauge Issue

Hi,
I've got aproblem which has manifested itself with the Caerbont 1-7 Bar Oil pressure gauge showing lower and lower pressure until it reads next to nothing when warm. No oil pressure wwarning light so suspected sender/gauge.
I put a oil pressure test gauge on and pressure is fine as suspected.
Tests show full scale on ignition on and 0 when sender wire shorted to earth so would look like gauge is OK.
Trouble is gauge worked fine once I started the engine with sender re-connected.
Has anyone experienced an intermittant oil pressure sender issue? I would have thought they either worked or not worked.
I wish I'd gone the mechanical gauge route but its too much of a pain to route the pipe and replace a gauge now.

Are you sure the sender is matched to the gauge?

Yep. It's a Caerbont PTR3000-8N-10 (10-180 Ohms 1/8NPT 7BAR) on a 7 Bar Caerbont Oil Pressure gauge.

worked fine for a few years then pressure showed lower and lower.

Then I'd guess it's the sensor. They suffer as a result of vibration (hence people mounting remotely). Have you tried checking the resistance?

I havent check the resistance yet but it appears to be working at the mo. Don't know if they can go wrong intermittantly.
It is mounted remote but remote on the engine block. I might try moving it away to the chassis to reduce the vibration.
