what coil?

Hi all. I have been told my car will not start due to there being no spark at the spark plug. I am told that the coil is most likely at fault. Could you please advise on what coil I should be buying? Is it just a standard 12v 'can style' coil?
Many thanks for any help!

To be fair We'll need a bit more info

What engine and ignition system are you using ?

What state of tune, standard or ?

If no other mods than carbs would a standard coil for a red top engine do the job?

Normally when that type of Ford coil pack fails it will either kill just one or two cylinders as the coil pack is actuall two separate wasted spark coils. If you have a crank no start check the output from the crank sensor and also the ignition module before firing the parts shotgun. See this Paul "Scannerdanner" Youtube video

Doesn't help very much unfortunately. A 20XE running on carbs will usually use either an aftermarket ignition system (e.g. MBE) with a wasted spark setup (i.e. twin coils with two outputs on each) or some people have fitted distributors from older Vauxhall engines.

Can't you just take a picture of the coil currently fitted?

The coil fitted is a ‘cab style, with one wire coming from positive and one from negative.
