What's the difference ?

Engines?

Comfort? (i found the back seats in a Ford Galaxy really uncomfortable)

Price?

What diesel do they all use?

I thought the seat was the VAG 1.9 unit. Available in pd tune.

Same vw engine in them. We had a 1.9tdi Galaxy which tends to be the better spec'd car and is generally priced slightly more the its cousins.

Which year/mk are you looking at?

We've got a 2003 Galaxy, 1.9tdi 115bhp version. Goes well enough and cruises at 70+. Surprisingly good on fuel too, 45mpg easily.

It doesn't like lots of short runs, but then does any diesel? Unless it has a good run once a week or so it will drop into limp mode if you load the engine up too much up hill. It's a known problem across them all. Switching off and on again clears it. It likes a good thrash to clear it out.

Ours has had over the last 5 years......

Disks/Pads front back.
Rear caliper.
Exhaust.
ARB drop links every 2 years.
Intercooler.
Alternator.
Driveshaft CV boots.
Charge boost control valve.
A/C has packed up again, been repaired once already.
Starter motor.
Heater resistor pack.

Despite the above which makes it sound like Triggers Broom, it has been such a handy thing to have. Take all the seats out and it's basically a van. I've moved all sorts in ours, even 8 x 4 sheets of plasterboard, concrete fence posts, a kitchen and any number of trips to the tip.

Only looking up to about '06 plate.

I was told that the VW and Seat had an Audi engine , a different diesel to the Ford...........no?

Some have V6 petrol?

Straight 4 petrol?

Automatic uses the Jatco slush box, however by 2006 they should all have the modded valve body which was the cause of the main Jatco problems.

Have a 2001 Alhambra 1.9tdi 115. Looked at about 10 cars before buying, several of each type. Very little to chose between them tbh.

Bought at 105k and hammered to 135k so far. Basic servicing + a new A/C condenser and track rod end. Service items and parts are cheap and it's easy to work on.

I have had to fiddle with the wiper mechanism a couple of times as they are prone to seizing, but it's easy to sort.

Have to say it's one of the best vehicles I've had full stop. Reliable, economic, comfortable and so bloody useful it's untrue.

We'll run it until it dies and get another one, with any of the 3 badges on it.
