0-100MPH
jeffw - 9/5/15 at 08:59 PM

Been to Goodwood today and didn't have a great day (excluded for noise) but looking at the datalogging I saw this

I didn't think that the times where too bad on cold tyres with a windy/damp day. I hit 154MPH on the back straight !

daniel mason - 9/5/15 at 09:02 PM

50mph - 100 mph in 4 secs is rather brisk!

jeffw - 9/5/15 at 09:09 PM

Considering it was an 'unassisted' launch as the flatshift and traction control is still not working and it was on cold tyres I think it is pretty respectable.

Wow

Love the tunes your charger plays!

All fixed then Jeff, have you been knocked off for noise there before or are they tightening down.

Makes my little car look slow.....

craig1410 - 9/5/15 at 10:01 PM

Very nice indeed! Sounds great and very rapid. Pulling around 1.2G lateral in the corners too which is very impressive.

jeffw - 9/5/15 at 10:17 PM

1.1G under acceleration from the start and a peak of 1.4 G lateral.

How did you manage anything if you where excluded for noise? Black flagged after going for it??

jeffw - 10/5/15 at 04:06 AM

I actual didn't achieve anything as I got no time for that run as I caught the car in front. I then got the Clerk of the Course excluding me for the noise infraction once I came back in.

mark chandler - 10/5/15 at 05:17 AM

Having been excluded from running my little car around Goodwood before so ended up driving the tow car on a track day what has changed? You have plenty of previous videos from Goodwood, not something stupid like due to having two cars on at once tripping things?

Note, when I was excluded they had a Ginetta and little 16v nova that passed exhaust noise, the scream from the induction was really loud!

daniel mason - 10/5/15 at 10:37 AM

I had the same issues at Anglesey in the radical last year when my best time was 48 secs quicker tan the car in front of me. I was asking the marshals for a huge gap otherwise I was On him after half a lap. I ended up sitting on the start line for about 30 secs with the green light on, refusing to set off!

adithorp - 10/5/15 at 11:13 AM

Rear exit exhaust to be reinstated then?

jeffw - 11/5/15 at 05:13 AM

The rear exit was certainly better at getting by at Goodwood as it isn't pointing at the noise meters which are on the outside of Madgewick and St Marys. I always pass the static (99dB) but the car failed the drive by at 108dB (limit if 101dB).

I'm actually starting to wonder if the issue is gearchanges without the clutch which causes the exhaust to flame as you change up. It might be the flatshifter will be better as it retards the ignition rather than me just slightly lifting the throttle. I drove as fast round Madgewick in practise and didn't get picked up. The problem is you don't get to try different things while they tell what works and what didn't, you just get sent home.

Harsh!

on a different note the under bonnet camera shows just how much the coilovers are working, great position.

It might not help but I doubt it, as you have been excluded for noise before you had that gearbox.

jeffw - 11/5/15 at 10:27 AM

true enough. I can't really figure out a 'safe' way to run an exhaust to the back of the car which doesn't pass close to the wheel or has the possibility of setting fire to the fibreglass.

adithorp - 11/5/15 at 12:54 PM

You could always... lift

jeffw - 11/5/15 at 01:29 PM

sorry....what does that mean?

adithorp - 11/5/15 at 01:41 PM

...or short shift...

Some (possibly) more helpful questions...
Is it all the exhaust or is the BOV contributing? Only car I've ever seen thrown out at Blyton was his dump valve causing it.
If you've no room for a heat shield, could you wrap the exhaust under the arch?
With the side exit would a deflector angled towards the floor or under the body help? When I was black flagged at Zolder, I jury rigged one from a coke can and that worked untill I melted the can; I've made a stainless one since.

jeffw - 11/5/15 at 01:50 PM

The dump value is the other side. The side exit had a dB killer fitted as well....
