Identify an Old Can My Dad had one of those book

So My dad had been given this book my dad had one of those.

He disputes how much he paid for his Mk 4/5 Cortina anyway he/we are struggling to identify this car on page 8/9 that does not seem to have a caption anywhere in the book.

Anyway over to the Collective locostbuilders to see if they can identify it

deffo a Moskvitch, tried to do a clutch on one once, after loosing about a gallon of blood on the sharp unfinished edges i let my mate do it

Deffo. They had great success in the British Touring Car series or whatever it was then called as categories were based on retail price, so despite being 1500cc or thereabouts they competed against 1000cc cars!
Moskies were manufactured in Russia but the original engine design was "up-lifted" from BMW - slant 4 engine.

IIRC Tony Lanfranchi drove one to the overall winner of the series in the late 70's.
There was also a team entered into the first Avon Motor Tour of Britain - ask me how I know!!

I was a young apprentice at Whitfield Garage, Nr Dover in the late 60's/early 70's where we supplied several to local customers. Two of them were pick up trucks, very rugged looking and came with tool kits etc. Unfortunately they fell apart in several years.

Soon as I told him. Of course it is Fred from work - crompton motors - manager of hand winding had one bought it new...., I knew I'd seen one been in one.

ISTR The chief engineer of the AA tried to get the import of these blocked from import to the UK because the steering wouldn't self-centre from full lock.
