More space. We all need more space.

Hi All,

I'm sure my garage / workshop is shrinking, so its time to extend. I'm fed up with chucking the Suttol outside when I need to
work on something else so the end wall has got to move.

Today was spent finishing the shuttering and by mid afternoon I took photo number two. My son Gaz did the floating off. Good innit.

Tomorrow will be laying the course of bricks for the wood to sit on. Monday I'll have a rest and beat the crap out of some metal.

The idea is to lengthen to make it two cars long. That way I can work on another car without putting the Suttol outside.

Not a problem in the summer, but on a wet January morning? Noooooo.

Today I added the brick course. No more progress as I need the damp course next.
Wickes next weekend perhaps.

I think that the way to tackle a big job is to split it into smaller jobs.

Think; by the end of the month I'll lay a base. By next month, walls. Roof on by Christmas. January, electrics.

On the subject of concrete; I was going to borrow an electric mixer, ballast & cement quote was Ł200. Readymix was Ł180. No brainer.

Sadly my time is spread so thin, weekends with kids, cars needing work, inside DIY jobs, desire to make things perfect, save money and the biggest one - as my mum would say - 'i'm a dilly daller'

Mmmm, I spent my weekend with the kid.

He had one wheelbarrow, I had the other. Then one end of the tamp, me the other, Then he floated off while I cleared up.

Sadly at 3 & 6 mine arent quite as useful yet!! Will have them in the mill/mines soon enough.

With you on this one - the 3 words I dread/treasure in equal measure are "can I help"!!! Mine are 4 and 8 months. The 4 year old is good with drilling (i'm paneling at the moment - so plenty of holes to drill :-D ) but terrified by the welder. I'm glad it's that way round to be honest!!!

The biggest thing missing in my life is a barn. I don't like to get rid of anything and it pains me to think of all the stuff I've been forced to part with over the years. My 2CV special is still lurking under a sheet in my garage, very much in the way but unused since the Locost was registered in 2009. I should have kept a 1957 Velocette Venom, Triumph Speed Twin (sprung hub) various other motor bikes, mopeds and scooters, Mini woody traveller , Escort Mexico, 2 GP 14 dinghies, to name just a few regrets.

Houses are always sized by the number of bedrooms, 2 bed semi, 3 bed detached, etc.

This is totally wrong in my book. It should be garages.

i.e. I'm moving up to a 3 garage (+ workshop) semi. Now has't that got a ring to it.

My mate did a barn conversion. Put 8 up & over doors all along the side. Now thats class.

Another weekend of graft sees the walls up.

No glass in the window yet and I'm making do with a tarp on the roof but it's getting there.

Don't know about another car; I recon I could park a train in there.
