Hit a fox (first hour in 2018) which broke my front bumper and I'd like to have a go at repairing it as quote has been £250. What are the recommendations for "gluing" it back together before I fill and paint

If its cracked you can either hot staple ot together and then skim over. or theres a plastic glue thingy that you melt with a soldering iron, Cant remember what its called but a mate uses it all the time repairing motor bike fairings

I used an old soldering iron to melt the plastic together, its messy and stinks,
but as long as you can rub it down flat and a light skim of filler, it should be fine

I don't think glueing will work

Soldering iron method works well, I use a cable tie a bit like a filler rod would be used in welding. Not too sure the fumes are good for you though so try not to breath too many in.

I've done quite a few bumper repairs now, soldering iron, melting and mixing the plastic works great and a scrap plastic rod as filler. Even fixed a huge crack in a kids climbing frame this way.

There are bonding methods using specialist epoxies or hot welding methods Both of which can use reinforcements. Personally I like welding using a hot staples pressed in using low cost heated tool (although pressing in heated paperclips works) and then hot soldering iron welding which is easier than it sounds. You should drill a 3mm hole at the end of any running cracks to stop the crack running. You will need to use a plastic primer to get the paint to stick.
