vx220 engine

The 2.2 is listed as 145 bhp.

Why so low?

Isnt the zetec 2.0 giving out 150 bhp, the astra gte 16 v gave the same 25 years ago ( pre cat version i think)

Just curious.

I had a n/a Vx 220, great car or the cash, engine wise it's torquey and for 2k ish supercharges with off the shelf gm bits to 250 bhp

Engine is bomb proof but low power for the cc

I now have an Elise with a Toyota engine that is fantastic in comparison

It's definately not bomb proof! I should know, i managed to destroy two in six months!

Going back thru the GM lumps the various lumps that led to the x22se in the VX NA, the bhp varied due to euro emmisions, denoted by the first letter of the code.
Redtop precat was 154bhp eng code 20xe
C denoted euro 3 emissions
Post cat dizzy 150 c20xe
Post cat dispac 154 c20xe
Then drop for the x which was euro4
Ecotec 134bhp x20xe
The extra .2cc in the vx must what gains the 10bhp back.

Blacktop zetec was only 135bhp.

It wasnt until vvc was used in that most 2.0s started to gain more than 150hp, (vtecs, st170, clio 172/182 etc)

From what I recall of my Vauxhall upbringing, the 2.2 ECOTEC engine was chain and not belt driven. This was run off an oil pressure tensioner, which I think was prone to "give up" and valves met pistons etc. etc..

Had a couple of C20XE's in my early days in the form of Mk2 Astra GTE, Cavalier GSi, and Calibra. Lovely engines, with the only downside being the hydraulic tappets that chose when they wanted to sound like a bag of spanners, and the occasional porous head issue (Coscast head was quite sought after as a remedy).

this happened on the early engine, after 03 it was changed and was fine

Thx for info. So all down to pesky emissions.... which makes the two litre lump in hondas s2000 all the more amazing 240 bhp :O
