Update:

I convinced the dealer to replace the DMF..and he is also going to do the clutch. I am paying for the clutch parts and some labour..going to cost me in the region of 350-400 which isn't great but far better than some of the quotes I got. As I got the timing belt and water pump done on the car before I bought it I see it as a mini victory. Hopefully the repairs will be ok. Thanks for all the comments and helpful advice.

Rule of thumb dealers try to get 50% contribution on these sort of wear and tear issues so it sounds like he's not a proper rogue trader
