Ginetta G40 ECU

Not locost but through someone on here may know the answer to the following questions -

The Ginetta G40 Juniors run a 1.8 Zetec Blacktop with throttle bodies (anyone confirm this, pictures seem to show them) with a Motec ECU but are limited to 100hp. Does anyone know how these are limited, by ECU or by inlet restrictors, and whether the ECU is able to be re-programmed easily to release the rest of the power the engine is capable of producing (if not being used for a race series and just a track car) ?

Thanks

Mine is a SC typhoon ecu. And it is not locked. As Ginetta, they are quite helpful

They use an MBE ECU, restricted power due to an inlet restrictor. The ginetta MBE Ecu's are locked so can't be reprogrammed that easily unless you start from scratch with the mapping I'm led to believe.

Many thanks again.

Was doing a bit of daydreaming and thought an ex Ginetta G40 Junior would make a nice project. Base cars can be had for around £15k (Ok not locost but ....) and they come with the 1.8 zetec with throttle bodies, 6 speed quaife sequential, ATB diff and discs all round plus the benefit of an FIA cage. As they made road going versions it should not be too hard to get it through an IVA and then come the fun - if the ECU was easily programmable then start by remapping and removing the restrictor, that should release about 130hp then drop in a 2.0l blacktop plus cams and remap to get to a healthy 175-180hp which should start to match the ability of the chassis. So potentially for around £17-18k you could have a decently quick road/track tool. Could get a bit back by selling the sequential and putting in an SPC semi helical which would suit the car a little better for the road.

Hmmmm.......
