Legalities?
So, just doing a bit of thinking, if I were to use a TVR chassis with properly registered v5 and then made it into a sand rail style car with bolt on
cage, no significant chassis mods other than the odd attachment plate welded on and a bit of ally panelling. What would I need to do to get it on the
road legally?

A new MoT & notify the DVLA of the body change, if they are dubious about it they might insist on an inspection, but I doubt it as they are
running out of anywhere to inspect!
I no longer run Furore Products or Furore Cars Ltd, but would still highly recommend them for Acewell dashes, projector headlights, dominator

Thanks, that's what I thought, now that has got my brain working -
TVR chassis can be had with running gear for £1500 max, plus a bit for refurb and paint.
Jag 4.0l xjr supercharged engine and slush box (manual conversion) £1500
Sandrail/atom/rocket frame £? Will be tricky to get the styling right but may just work.
Might be interesting, may try and photoshop up later.

Just keep in mind MOT regs, for example would it pass headlight aim and seatbelt tests? Sharp edge requirements are not as stringent as IVA, but
there's still elements of common sense to be applied.
I guess the kerb weight would change, and is there some relationship between weight and braking efficiency (again, from an MOT perspective)?
It is odd that a body change doesn't need an IVA, I've seen some godawful 'cabriolet' conversions that could pass an MOT but
really shouldn't!

Thanks for the comments, Body changes only work if the car has a separate chassis. From doing a bit of quick reading, so long as the chassis is not
altered then it does not need an IVA. If you chop the top off a tin top then it should need an IVA as you have changed the monocoque which is in
effect the chassis. This is also the reason most Hotrods based on model a/b/y and scimitar chassis do not tend to need an IVA.
This is also how Samio (as was) and also many of the beetle based sandrails/buggies also did not need IVA so long as the floor pan (beetle) or chassis
(herald/spitfire) were not shortened or altered.
I was considering a land rover sled with a mid engine audi v8/transaxle but the 109 landys are becoming more expensive.
Must get the Anglia finished first !

I was daydreaming of a similar idea, but thinking of buying an already registered Robin Hood - the type with the curved chassis tube (2B ?)
Remove the bodywork and add some extra Atom style curved tubes, create a few minimal body panels, change the wheels etc
Just a day dream as I'm already working on one kit and have another waiting in storage!

Oops - that's a large image, is there anyway I can make the preview smaller? (I linked someone else's image), On another forum I use, they
add "640" on the html to limit the displayed size
