mgb sleeper

Just throwing this out for discussion.

Original 1.8 b series produced 90 bhp if memory serves me well.

What engine to fit to get 2 - 3x times, say 240 bhp.

Needs to be cheap, r.g £200 for engine but obviusly adapter plate fuelling extra., not rover v8, can be turbo or s/c, maybe 6 cylinder.

Vw vr6? Bmw 6 cylinder?

Several years ago I did a Zetec conversion, which are tunable.

The chassis rails and inner wings are quite narrow, original V8 the inner wings were reshaped for the exhaust, the RV8 has holes which the pipes exit through.

BMW M52B28 for me if it'll fit. The amount it's canted over could be an issue.
You won't get more bang for your buck!! About 230bhp (with tweaks) for well under £500.

Don't forget you will need to update the rear diff, propshaft, brakes, tyres and suspension otherwise you may well be building the worlds best ditch finding device.

My line of thinking too.

Readily available and a cracking motor with good power and plenty of tuning parts as well.

£200 may well get you the engine, but the overall budget, including brakes will have to be more.

Would the Jag AJ30 V6 fit into the body? Might be a replacement on an MGBGTV8.

Work-in-Progress: Changed to Zetec + T9. Still trying!!

Quick search on ebay shows no 200 sx nor rover 800 engines, which i interpret as being uncommoin so hard to source and/or pricey.

Any modern v8, eg lexus is out due to size and orice, £2 k for lexus v8 :O

So thinking a turb 8is the way, , 1.8 to 2.0, but what, audi 1.8t,?

Audi or vw Apx or Bam engines are 225 bhp standard, simple remap take them to 270bhp. Or the cheaper 180bhp engines can be purchased complete for £200 remap takes them to around 220bhp.
You can run them all on the vw/audi ecu.
I've got a apx 1.8t I am going to fit in one of my Marlins, I picked a complete low milage engine complete with everything to run it for £500, I also bought a spare Apx engine less the turbo as a spare for £100!.
My other Marlin has rover T16 turbo, remapped with 12psi boost is 230/40bhp, and again run on the rover ecu, a great engine but getting rare now, but again I have a spare low milage complete T16 turbo which I picked up for £300 so there are bargains come up from time to time.
