MegaJolt Rev3
JimM - 25/2/19 at 01:08 PM

Hi All,

Cant get HP Windows10 (or Windows7) to Communicate with the Megajolt system.

So, has anyone overcome the new Windows software / USB programming for a Megajolt Rev3 box?
I believe there is no problem with the later Rev4 PCB product.

Tried 3 different USB cables .. all work on other computers at work.
Changed the USB code to an earlier version with no success ...
Checked the correct Coms port is active and set Megajolt software accordingly.
Getting ready to bin the Rev3 unit if no success with this request ...

Code loaded is a basic 1.8 Zetec setup.
Engine swapped to an ST170 then dyno run to map system to suit new engine .... No Joy- Dyno guy could not tack to Magajolt.

All suggestions welcome.

cheers
Jim

I had all sorts of issues with serial to USB adaptors with mine. Ended up paying the premium for the tried and tested ones from Trigger Wheels and had no issues since.

What kind of pc have you got?

I've got an old laptop with a real serial port, cheap, cheerful and guaranteed to connect

I had the same issue with a Rev2. Tried everything to connect, no joy. Ended up getting another one off here and connected no issue.

Hi Merced1

I'm sure we have met many moons ago ... at the Steadings pub near the ski sloes.

I might take you up on a low cost OLD XP laptop ...
Once the Tiger is back on the road, I'll arrange to come over and test the laptop.

If it communicates with the Megajolt then we can review what you want for thew M/c.

cheers
Jim.

Ps Using HP laptop with Windows 10, also tried on HP notebook with Windows 7

My work laptop has its own serial port and I still couldn't connect to mine. It seems to communications side of these can go faulty. Here's the thread with everything I tried - http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=213860

Unfortunately I can't really part with the laptop (I'm hoping to get mine running soon) - but if we can find good time your more than welcome to use it to test your setup

if it is just the USB adaptor you can normally find old xp laptops that'll do the job for less than £50 (although the battery is always dead - I run mine of a 12v adaptor) and if your lucky you might even know someone thats got an old one in a cupboard you could get for nowt. - that can be cheaper than th better quality USB adaptors

Make sure you get a usb to serial converter which uses the FTDI chipset, you’ll be fine.

Some but not all Prolific chipsets work, FTDI is a little more expensive but does work fine.
