FF2 & FF3 to notch & bend or to cut & weld????

The steel has arrived and I've picked up my diff, all 4 uprights and drive shafts (MX-5) so the build has officially started....Whoop!

Tomorrow I plan to spend a few hours (probably 24) making a start on the chassis and one of the most obvious differences from the car I built many years ago are the front frame uprights FF2 and FF3. The book shows that you cut a V and bend to create a 26 degree angle and weld shut, but this looks like quite a hassle. Would It not be easier to make these upright sections from two separate pieces and simply weld together?
