Pipe bender for large pipe exhausts etc, pref hydraulic
anyone got anything
Logic will get you from a A to B

The rest of this thread will be all about the difference between pipe and tube and why a hydraulic pipe bender won't be suitable for bending
exhaust tube.
Sorry, just saying, but someone would have anyway.

actually the first job for it is some side step frames for my Jago,
what do you need to bend exhaust pipe/tube then

a mandrel tube bender is what you want. a hydraulic pipe bender is made for thick walled water/gas pipe

You need something with formers to suit the exact tube size.
It's best if you check out the difference between the sizing of tube and pipe as a starting point.
I'll try and remember the one I've seen, but it forms exhaust perfectly.
More when I remember the name.

I have a hydraulic bender (not for sale I'm afraid)
In response to the points made above, I have used it to bend exhaust and it works, but there is a bit of a laborious tecnique:
cap the end of the pipe (weld a plate over the end or ram in a wooden bung).
Fill pipe with dry sand
cap the other end
heat the bend area to cherry red
bend away.
The sand stops the pipe collapsing and it works pretty well, but it does take a wee while.

what size od are you hoping to bend ?

dont know if they do exhausts but they certainly bend tubes/pipes.

Buy the bends and the straight then weld together. I got bends for about four quid each at Detling (someone like Robin Hood had boxes of them); work
out how much time capping, filling with sand etc etc etc is going to take then get on with your life
If you want tight bends, buy schedule 40 (got mine from All Stainless Ltd) (used these for the turbo mods I tried)
I know it's one of those "I can do that" jobs but it really is more hassle than the "bragging rights" dictate
Yes, I bought the machine mart hydaulic bender and sent it back.

That's the one I have and use with the sand and heat tecnique described previously.
The other mod to mention is that the standard rollers which go on the outside of the bend can dent the wall of the tube as it is forced against them.
I always put a length (6" or so) of 3mm flatbar between the section being bent and each roller to spread the load to avoid this.

Thanks for the offer Flibble, its appreciated, Ive used them before
the reason i am looking to buy one is down to having used one ALOT for work lately and i wanna knock up for rock sliders and foot plate supports for
my Jago and my mates Disco, got to the point where i can justify having one to the SWMBO
