De Dion Axle Tube

Hello,
Ideally I need some 80 x 60 x 3mm mild steel box section if it exists, can't find any on google, but I'm sure in the past I have found some on line somewhere

Any pointers?

Close would be good as it attaches to 60mm tube

How would they fold a box section? I do have a plan b if the required box section isn't available and that is to cut down some 80 x 80 box section

They could fold you a box but you (or they) would have to weld the joint.

The independent part of IRS isn't that important what matters more is unsprung weight, a good de Dion gives the same unsprung weight as IRS and good camber control.
The main reason de Dion isn't used widely is the the space it takes up, some years back Ferrari built an F1 mule with a CF composite de Dion, the test proved it gave the same as grip levels as IRS but but fine tuning the set would have meant moving out of there knowledge comfort zone and the aero side of it was a non-starter.

Strangely enough, in the UK, the only way to get 80 x 60 RHS is in stainless steel but in hot rolled carbon or ERW the nearest you'll get is 80 x 40. If it is only a short length then I would suggest a pair of 77 x 57 pressed angles, open corner welded would come out at 80 x 60. As far as I'm aware, it is not possible to press 4 sides of such a small box section so I think that option may be ruled out.

Thanks everyone for your help, I will section a 80 x 80 x 3 box section I already have, it's only a couple of short runs I need, so not to differcult to achieve
