I was told free dental was only availible for students up to 18. I'm still a full time student but comfortably over 18 so my last checkup cost £16 with an NHS practice.

18yo daughter, student has just had a brace fitted, nothing from the government so the £3000 - £4000 bill is down to me

It sucks BIG TIME

See this is what gets me, you can be really fat and smoke and have all sorts of problems through it and the NHS is free, but if you fall over and knock a tooth out you got to pay.

Is the NHS free or not?

there is a form you can fill out if your in full time higher education. cant remember the number of it but all my dental was free up to the age of 23 when i finished uni

failing that wait until the summer hols register as un-employed and you will get it all free.

As AshG said - whilst you're still in full-time education (this includes university), NHS dentist work is still free. There's no upper age restriction, I left uni at the ripe old age of 23 and my yearly checkup (plus the occasional little filling) costa peanuts!

There is a form you have to fill out to get free presciptions and dental.

However If you have to much money or your parents do you won't get it.

I was going to get the form filled out as would of been ok but never needed it.

I never paid for dental treatment until I left uni at 22
