zetec thermostat housing

I have an unstamped 1.8 zetec and the big hole ive found at the flywheel end i think is where the thermostat housing goes. Its a silvertop and the head does have a code. What is the best one to get and where from? Should i just follow the head code and get one for that type? Or is that a silly question. Sorry im no mechanic!

The fitting is the same for all the zetec stat housings, but...

Very early and rare stat housings are alloy with a fiber gasket.

Then went to plastic with an O ring.

Then changed the senosor sizes on the black top.

Then they went to one sensor on the last of the black tops. Avoid these. They seemed to cut corners on quality with these.

brilliant thanks.

Makes me feel a bit more confidant about buying one off ebay.

Cheers

The late ones from North American SVT Focii (which I imagine is the same as the ST170) are crap, the plastic is naff, they crack, warp and leak. The fix is to go with the earlier style from a Mondeo which has nicer seals and appears to be made out of black bakelite or some other fiber reinforced plastic.

Cheers, Ted
