Any MG experts??

Hi,

Might be a bit of a long shot but worth a try...

Do I need different wheel nuts to change from RoStyle wheels to Minilite (Minator actually) alloy wheels on a '72 MGB GT?

I will be very impressed if someone can tell me!

Cheers, and happy new year to everyone.

Stu

Can't answer the question directly, but if you've got both wheels, check that they are similar thickness ie similar thread length will engage, & that the seat angle is the same diameter & taper, should be able to check this by holding a nut against the 2 tapers to check engagement. HTH

I no longer run Furore Products or Furore Cars Ltd, but would still highly recommend them for Acewell dashes, projector headlights, dominator headlights, indicators, mirrors etc, best prices in the UK! Take a look at http://www.furoreproducts.co.uk/ or find more parts on Ebay, user names furoreltd & furoreproducts, discounts available for LCB users.
Don't forget Stainless Steel Braided brake hoses, made to your exact requirements in any of around 16 colours. http://shop.ebay.co.uk/furoreproducts/m.html?_dmd=1&_ipg=50&_sop=12&_rdc=1

Thanks, they are the same thickness and I did initially try to compare the tapers as you suggest, it's just a bit difficult as the taper is quite inaccessible so I wondered if anyone had a definitive answer.

Appreciate the advice though, thanks.

Most after market alloys these days use 60 degree tapered seat nuts, contact wheel manufacturer to check the fitting.

The MGB Rostyle used wheel nuts with beveled seats.

ISTR the wheel nut thread on the MGB is 1/2" UNF

Real Minilites used at totally different nut fitting.

My MG had one alloy on when I got it, minilite type, and had special wheel nuts, with a built in 'taper washer' presumably so when the taper pulled up against the alloy, it spun in the nut rather than against the alloy.

I think I've binned them, cos I'm converting to wires and they were past being any use, but if I can find one I'll post a pic.
Rgds.
Pete.

The wheel nuts on Rostyle wheels are not the nicest nuts anyhow, the chrome often peels off and they wouldn't look right with Minilite type wheels IMHP

Damn, clicked that link 1 minute late! Nevermind, at least I know what I'm looking for now.

Cheers everyone

Edit - Yep they are a bit scruffy... In fact, they are rusty nuts.
