Making A Parachute?
I love speed :-P - 12/10/04 at 10:59 AM

For my levels, I need to make a parachute for a dragster, so has anyone got any information about making one, or any information about using parachutes in drag racing?

Thanks Very Much

I remember sme one told me that you cant use regular parachutes because they will tear from rubbing the ground when deployed, and they have to be made from special material, not sure of the validity of that statement though, Ive never looked into it.

Here is a link with a basic formula for the size, not much help, but maybe better than nothin

hi,

If you search for kites you will find some plans and instructions for building such things.

also it is worth remembering that an ordinary parachute of the old stile (i.e. not a wing) are designed to travel in a direction and hence have cutouts on one side this would not be appropriate to have vents of such a size although some are needed so that the parachute does not drag along the ground.

Most of the dragsters I've seen on TV have chutes shaped like an "X", like 2 long rectangles crossed at 90 degrees.

Probably not to hard to make out of something like ripstop nylon (as used in kites and dinghy sails), but I wouldn't like to trust my life to one I made myself.

rgds,

David

Have you gotta make it,I have an old microlight recovery chute you can have.
Thats if I can find the bugger.
Comes in a cannister thats spring loaded pull the cord, the drones released and hey presto.
Cheers,
Bob
