Don't Stray From The Norm
907 - 10/10/14 at 05:24 PM

Hi All,

In all the time I have been a member here I have heard people say many times that to stray from the recognised
build adds much time and money, and I must say that's good advice.
I can say that now with the benefit of hindsight but in the beginning my views were different, and off I went down
the path of the "plus four".

Up till now I only knew of two things that were easier. The steering rack is perfection from a bump steer point of view,
and the Sierra diff and drive shafts are the perfect length if IRS is your thing.

However number three has raised it's head. I've just fitted Mini window wipers and they fitted as if they were made
for the car. Didn't cut or change a thing although the wiring of them has made me scratch my head.
Using a Vauxhall Nova steering column with it's associated switch gear didn't help. I appear to have a wire left over.
O well. (shrug)

Cheers

I had slightly more issues than a spare wire when setting about sticking a honda s2000 engine and box in a 7 chassis

That's all very well for you to say.

I can make more sense out of a saucepan full of spaghetti than I can out of wiring diagrams.

Is your mini motor single speed, or twin? And how many speeds did the Nova have originally?

The Mini motor is 2 speed.

The Nova switch has 6 wires. A common live that forms a circuit with 3 others in turn. Intermittent, slow & fast.
The intermittent is redundant and I used the slow and fast.
Wire 5 is washers….

leaving wire 6, the fat blue one… I'm stumped ????

Sounds like the sort of fun I had back in the early 80's when I decided to upgrade the wipers on a my Mk1 Cortina by fitting the wiper motor (wipers, motor and all mechanisms) and ALL column switches (including lights and indicators) from a Mk2 (RWD) Escort, all onto the standard Mk1 Cortina column and scuttle). Deep JOY.

Rear wiper? That's all I've got as Google is proving useless on a wiring diagram.

I wondered if the Nova had a different way of wiring "park" ???

The symbols on the stalk are:-

\// wash
= fast
_ slow
O off

Mini park is done by the motor but it needs the slow or fast signal passing to it.

Using a single 5 pin relay you can get it working off pretty much any switch.

Hi Stot,

Yes I used your link posted in the electrical section of this forum. Cheers.
I used a 5 pin and found the diagram reasonably easy to follow, which must mean it's dead easy for anyone else.

Works a treat.

I've tired and done the Norm, Got bored

We all love the challenges we set our self's, mine this time is Alfa V6 to T5 gearbox and all the fun that goes with it.

Good luck sorting the wipers.

ATB Dan.

Edit, When I'm swearing at the car on here, please point me back to this thread.

Hi Paul, do you still have a copy of the diagram? I am trying to do the same, and the link is fine, but the diagrams have disappeared

I just need park clarifying

The same diagram/explanation is here.

Where did this thread spring from ?

Thanks Stot for saving me the embarrassment of admitting I can't remember.

Thanks guys! It was me who resurrected the thread. Been trying to sort this for a couple of days, and searched the net too, you must have a special Talent Stoty

Oh well, thought I had got it sorted, but apparently not

2 speeds work fine. but immediately I connect the auto park wires up it blows the fuse. If it's not in the park position it will park then blow, so I think maybe my motor is fubarred

Anyway, I'll live with 2 speed for now.....

On to the ignition and starter switches
