what is the Fastest/Most Powerful Seven
obr_technology - 1/4/15 at 09:09 PM

Hi All,

Does anyone know which is the fastest ever seven or even which had the most power?

I realise it's not all about being the fastest, but just genuinely interested.

I remember tiger did the fastest 0-60 with their z100 but wonders if anyone knows who is king of the acceleration, top speed, power?

Barkalarr - 1/4/15 at 09:19 PM

Whatever seven it is, this has got to be up there.... Linky

rf900rush - 1/4/15 at 09:31 PM

The Dax Rush Hayabusy turbo Demo Car.
I was told It managed a 2.8s to 60.
Having been in it been in it I don't doubt the figures.

Was not very long after the demo I had ordered a Rush, be it a slower version.

Had my rush dyno'ed at an open day. Managed a 165bhp. 1.2 litre.
Followed by some silly monster of a rush with a big V8. made in excess of 500bhp.

jeffw - 1/4/15 at 09:38 PM

Do a search for Duncan Cowper & Dax Rush...

bi22le - 1/4/15 at 09:43 PM

Duncan cowper was also my first thought.

Its going to be a bec turbo unless you look at donkervoort.

perksy - 1/4/15 at 09:47 PM

Iirc Darren Cudds Cosworth Turbo Westfield was 550 bhp although I think it liked gearboxes

Barry Ashcroft built a Westfield with a small block Chevy in it

There was also a twin bike engined Westy aswell and that went well at Curborough when it wasn't swapping ends

and Adrian Clinton Watkins had a V8 Bike engined version that sounded bloody awesome

theduck - 1/4/15 at 09:47 PM

would imagine lee's cosworth powered westfield is up there

The Bunn/hodder Westfield is pretty manic! That's the fastest I've seen. In a straight line anyway! Crossed the finish line at aintree sprint at about 145mph

Thanks, after a bit of googling it looks like Adrian Clinton-Watkins has a powertec v8, I bet that sounds great!

Not have but unfortunately had a ZX12R Rush. Do miss it.

obr_technology - 1/4/15 at 10:11 PM

INDY BIRD - 1/4/15 at 10:23 PM

been in duncans car as he is a good friend, mental quick,

went in the original demo car also like rf900 upto 100 mph you could have put a £50 not on the dash and said if you can reach it its yours not a chance this thing put you in your seat big time what a rush (sorry for the pun )

i thought bot my turbo cars where quick until duncs car,

but i would say 0-60 as said the early post, the tiger car tiff needle drove on the fifth gear twin bike engine looked mental quick

I miss my turbo cars

oh and power there is a dax rush andy sterling with a monster LS engine in apparently its good for well over 160 mph

ettore bugatti - 1/4/15 at 10:30 PM

Donkervoort D8 GTO

Ugg10 - 1/4/15 at 11:18 PM

Caterham Lavante - bike engine v8
Tiger Z100 - either rwd or 4wd twin bike engine car

I was wondering why there were so many cars parked up on the right hand side of the track? Then I realised they were actually moving, all be it a little slower than Lee's Cosworth.

Once my engine has been mapped am looking at a high and low boost setting giving 250bhp on low and 300-320bhp on high. It will be a very minimal car to with no heaters or wipers as I don't plan to go over 500kg.

But am sure most bec would be quicker on a track.

jeffw - 2/4/15 at 08:10 AM

Fastest/Quickest/Most Powerful

All different questions with different answers. I know that Duncan's turbo Busa Dax is 550BHP or so and is likely to be in the running for Quickest and maybe most Powerful. Fastest would likely be a bodied 7 like a Phoenix or Fury (if they count). I've seen 164MPH on the GPS but I'm sure there are faster cars than that.

daniel mason - 2/4/15 at 09:21 AM

The times Gary bun does in del hodders car are pretty damn fast!
Think he was in the 64's at blyton and 86 around Anglesey international!

jeffw - 2/4/15 at 09:44 AM

Certainly at Hethel Duncan was faster....he was chasing the single seater for FTD

1. Tony Beasley - Jedi 120.12
2. Matt Carter - Radical 120.48
3 Gary Hayward - Evo - 120.80
4 Duncan Cowper - Dax Rush - 120.91
11 Gary Bunn - Westfield - 127.31

I know that Gary withdrew with issues and that Duncan had cracked both front discs before the final run at Hethel in August but this is the only event I can think of when Duncan turned up last year. We both now how quick Matt Carter is....

as Jeff says, the 3 points are all different, unlikely to find a car that will do all 3.

often notice at Aintree and Anglesey the aero drag of the 7 types really makes them struggle. some of the quick Midland Busa 7s struggle to get over 115-118mph over the flying finish at Aintree, whereas my lardy old bus does 129-132mph depending on head/tail wind. The busa 7s kick my arse at the shorter or lower speed sprints though as youd imagine.

Simon McBeath did an article years ago *I think* in CCC (if not RacecarEngineering) with a Caterham in MIRAs wind tunnel to reduce drag. made a huge difference, lots of cardboard and tank tape to cowl in silencer etc, and front cycle wings that came so far forward around the tyre they almost met the floor

daniel mason - 2/4/15 at 05:41 PM

Was gary in his westy cosworth or del's?
Matt is mega quick too. I saw tha turbo'd dax at hardwood a couple of years back and it couldn't get power down at all.i imagine the tight twisty bits with short straights didn't suit the car which I would think would be awesome somewhere really fast!
Surprised Gary was 7 secs behind as at anglesey he was up with the fastest cars there other than the Gould NME

perksy - 2/4/15 at 07:53 PM

Ooops forgot about Del and Gary sharing Dels car, Yes its bloody quick

Gary's old NA Cossie powered car wasn't slow either...

Mark Smiths old XE powered Westfield was absolutely awesome aswell but he's now moved to a single seater

That's a really good point, the seven shape doesn't have a great coefficient of drag!

jeffw - 2/4/15 at 09:37 PM

This is an interesting comparison between a 7 (Levante) and something truly quick

That's an interesting read, with two cars that have a fairly similar power to weight ratio.

I suppose if you compared the Caterham to a more similarly priced 'production' car like a 911 turbo then it would be a different result.

I still think the Caterham is a lot of money for what it is when you compare it to a Radical SR8, but I suppose not if you compare it to the Atom V8.

bi22le - 5/4/15 at 12:24 AM

Back to OP. The question was about sevens.

Even of they have bags of aero.
