Speedo Not Working
scootz - 2/7/16 at 11:00 AM

Wondered if anyone had experienced this before?

My (cable driven / Type 9) speedo was working fine until I disconnected it to change the dash.

I've reconnected it, but once moving, the pointer sweeps around the gauge until about 30 metres have been covered, where it gets stuck at the max.

It sweeps back to '0' once I've reversed the same distance.

What have I done wrong this time!?

All help appreciated as the car is sold, and I'd rather the speedo was working for the new owner.

Cheers!

There is rotating magnet inside which is very close to an induction disc thingy which drives the pointer. Sounds like the gap has dissapeared so take it apart and have a look. I had something similar many years ago when grease from the cable worked its way into the magnet bit.

Eventually worked it out... needle was turning almost 1-1 with the cable movement, and not returning to zero.

Broken spring!?

Er, yup!

Oh well, anyone have a 80mm mechanical speedo they want to sell?

Posiible to solder a short length f wire to join the spring?

There are two companies in uk that come up with werb search that can refurb speedos, it may be possible to buy the spring from them.
