Claiming refund on car tax

Hi

Seeing as though the weather is pants I can't see me getting the car out until the better weather re-appears. So I was going to sorn the car off road and claim back the months worth of tax that's still on it.

Can anyone confirm the correct procedure? Looking on the gov website it looks like I have to complete form v14 but to be honest I thought all this would of been done on-line!

Many thanks

If you're looking to claim December's tax, you may already be too late. They only refund complete months, and they won't deal with it before Monday.

Make a sorn application online, the tax will automatically get refunded to the address on v5 in keepers name.

As far as I can tell they have removed the ability to apply for a refund online, with the new tax system.

I SORN'd my car 3 weeks after taxing it in September, got sent a paper tax disc (the ones printed on a letter) just before I SORN'd it. The website now says you'll be automatically sent a cheque within 6 weeks, but it's been months now. You will likely still have to apply for your refund but now the form isn't available online as far as I can tell.
