As title, does anyone have them fitted in their house? What make do you recommend? Are there any to avoid?

Do you mean a wall socket with a USB port built in?

Not seen them, but it's a neat idea! Could do with them on most sockets in the house to do away with the charger plug.

Looks like a great idea this, might be just the ticket for the usual sockets we use in the kitchen for charging!

They werent overly expensive either!

Some of them look a bit cheap. As said already, probs best to use MK ones.

Ive had a few cheap cables and plugs before that were very unreliable, wouldn't want the same after refitting sockets, hence wondering if anyone has direct experience with them.

Not quite what you're after, but I got one of these;

It's able to put out 2.4 amps per port and on more than one port, so I can actually properly charge several devices. The last time I had a similar device it was rated 1 amp overall, so it wouldn't even acknowledge more than one device let alone charge it.

Nive idea but not exactly cheap, conpared to a £1 plug charger, pkus it will always draw a tiny amount of current, and does not appear to a direct repkacement since it looks taller.

Iirc usb standard spec the max current, fron memory this was 500 ma but things may have moved on.

... apart fon that, no reasin why not to fit one, just rnsure baby/cat does not stick metal object into the socket.

Also if you're going to use this to charge modern devices, don't forget that they will be able to tell if the USB charger/socket being used is compatible or not, and they will modify their charging parameters accordingly. There's more information about it on this website: *LINK* but basically the unused D+/D- wires are held at predetermined voltages by the charger and the device can read these voltages to determine the type of charger and therefore know how much current it is capable of supplying.

So unless these sockets can be switched to emulate branded chargers, you will probably get the equivalent of a trickle charge. With Apple products you may even get "Unsupported accessory" error messages. I used to get this problem with cheap eBay car accessories for Apple stuff until I found this website and started modifying them.

It's a neat idea, but you're probably better off just getting some spare chargers?

I looked at these when upgraded our sockets every model I have looked was is only 1 amp per outlet so I didn't go down that route and just went to 3 or 4 gang sockets.
It was also unclear if the USB socket was switched on permanently live.
