Lego Caterham - FINISHED
nick205 - 3/3/17 at 09:04 AM

Well...I finally finished assembling my Lego Caterham

Quicker build than my MK Indy, but then I can't actually get in this one so

It's pretty good though...

Looks smart! Always a proud moment! I bet you pushed it and went brrrm brrmmm!?
Now take it all apart and make something different!?

I (still) have the red 'test car' from the early 90s and when I was about 12 I ended up adapting it to be 4wd, even bought 2 extra differentials. lol

I love lego, toyed with the idea of getting one of the big sets with christmas money - but in recent years parts have been getting a bit 'bespoke'. It used to be you had to make the best you could out of generic parts, which IMO is where the fun and imagination comes in. It seems the Caterham isnt too bad (mainly because the source design is fairly generic!), but things like the big AROC and Porsche all have bespoke panels - thats not lego!

Also why the f*** do Americans pluralise it? Legos - weirdos

Not sure the headlights will pass and MOT test, don't look straight to me

Loggy - how true, building with some "imagination" using ordinary Lego parts is what's held me for years. "Specialist" parts IMHO take this away from kids and again IMHO make the sets less likely to be reused for other projects. As a kid I used Technic Lego and built 4WD Defender models, which were test driven over tracks made from duvets and cushions. And yes...I did push it around making silly engine noises on completion

Peter - you're right it would face some IVA issues (a few sharp edges as well)

All in it's great fun to build though and WILL come apart to build other things.

My brother's got one of these which is annoying as i love kit cars (and lego), he doesn't really care about cars but does collect lego!
My only problem here is that the prices for anything lego branded have gone through the roof in later years and i just done agree that as good as the kit is, that it justifies the price tag....

Did you have loads of stuff left over ?

It's not a proper build unless you have spare bits over.

Is this actually lego or blatant knock off?
Has anyone actually bought from here before?

Knock off, but Legos 50yr Patent expired a few years back.

I give you 7/10. Headlight alignment does not appear correct and there is no floor.

Glue some small pieces of aluminium foil to the mirrors for extra realism.

.... and what's with the let over parts? Be careful when you drive it as something like a wheel may fall off!!

Can we see photo with bonnet off?

So, for the lego fans...

Heres my effort....

Thought the bank looked a bit crap so got the builders in...

Ended up looking much more imposing..

Never quite liked the look of the Cateringvan and the Porche price was eye watering... should have bought it in toysrus when they had the half price lego sale on... doh!

Going to build a road and a train station opposite and maybe build some modular trucks for the street scene..

Thanks for the link, been after a emerald night and here it's about £500 but on there I can get one for less than 60 dollars....

nick205 - 5/3/17 at 02:30 PM

Yes I had some parts left over, but then are they ever really finished?

macc man - 5/3/17 at 04:49 PM

I was given one for xmas by my daughter. She works for Leggo. It took me 2 days to complete it and yes it does have extra parts included just to fox you.
