xbox live warning

Got my credit card today and noticed that xbox live had taken £5.99 from my acount, looked back in my statements and this was the third month this had happened.

So, hands up, I should check my statements more closely.

Tracked the culprit down, but that is not the issue.

Here's my beef with micrsoft/xbox live:

1) I have never entered my credit card number into the xbox, pevious live subscriptions have been through prepaid cards
2) I did buy a win 8.1 upgrade from Microsoft so this is where I am assuming they have linked the accounts
3) most worrying, the card they had on the system had an expiry date over a year ago but still processed the request, and the credit card put it through (same account but current card has a new expiry date)

So, just a word of warning if you have kids and an xbox, even though the card info is out of date you will get billed. The icing on the cake is that the default is to automatically renew xbox live each month, gotcha!

I had the same and queried it withe card provider and was told that because it was a recurring charge it would be authorised. At least now you can cancel online, you used to have to phone them and that took hours!

I had to ring them as I could not cancel/remove the card as there was another month's payment pending. Got it all sorted but I will be contacting my card provider as the original payment that started the recurring fee was made on an expired card, surely this is not right - other online retailers I use will not process goods on an expired card (e.g. Amazon) so why Microsoft ???

I suppose they would have to for things like house insurance etc where the payments are expected to continue regardless of the account card details it could be disastrous for some if that wasn't the case. Really the card is just a tool to access the account and nothing else, I’ve lost my card several times but you’d not expect I’d have to also phone up your car insurance company to have to give them the new card details would you…?

I've had recurring payments on cards and they've actually been declined when I get a new card. My Yahoo mail account is the most obvious one as it's a yearly payment and I get new cards every 2 years.

It's interesting that some places can continue charging an expired card.

Same EXACT thing happened to me only itd be going on for like a year. I phoned them up and they gave me £50 back cause I asked for a good will gesture.. But still shouldn't have happened. I think it was because I linked my Windows 8.1 and xbox account.

Never trust Microsoft.. Lesson. Learnt.

Apple is the future
