Tomtom repair

Hello all.
I have a Tomtom go 5000 that is faulty; it has run out of warranty.
I’ve contacted Tomtom and it will cost £85 to repair.
I can replace the Satnav for £169, but I’ve been told that Tomtom normally sends out a new satnav instead of repairing the old unit.
Do any of you have any experience of this?

Thanks Martin.
