Power supply to BT home hub
My power supply to my home hub went pop the other day. I have a 12v power supply but with a higher current output, would it be ok to splice my old
plug on to this or would the higher current damage the hub?
Need to use it before the new plug arrives!
Thanks John

The home hub will only take as much current as it needs - the only difference is that the new power supply can supply more current if the hub takes
it.
The only requirement is that the voltage is identical, and the current capacity is equal to, or greater than, the old power supply. However, make
ABSOLUTELY sure that the polarity is the same when you switch the connectors, or you'll let the magic smoke out if you get it wrong.

As above the fact your PSU can deliver more current doesn't mean it will unless asked to. Provided the voltage and polarity are the same you
should be fine using it. If you have a multi-meter it's worth checking the polarity carefully before connecting it tom avoid damaging the hub
itself.

Many thanks for the replies. I have been looking around the net and it seems that the inner connection on the lead is the positive

it should
be marked on the bottom of the failed supply.
usually a minus sign on the left, linked to an outer circle, and a central blob linked to a plus sign.
which version of the hub is it? certainly hh5a is centre positive, as is hh3b
