Biggles flies back to front!

Well... what a nice day!

My wife and I went to Duxford airfield today, mostly because we hadn't been there for ages. There's a big airshow on next weekend so there were a lot of war planes practicing for the show, which was a spectacular and free treat. As usual I came out with the usual "I've always fancied going in one of those Tiger Moth flights, but they are a bit expensive". Wife says "You always say that - your birthday's coming up and I owe you a good present, so I'm paying for a flight."

So here I am, looking like a tubby Biggles:
Biggles
Biggles

The Tiger Moth I flew in was the silver one on the right.

It wasn't a very long flight at 15 minutes - but I reckon that I may have chucked up if it had been for 30 minutes! The weather was sunny with patchy cloud, and every time the plane went from under the clouds in to a sunny bit and back again the plane lurched. a roller-coaster ride...

Good fun though, and I'm glad I did it.

I think you'd find it tough to jump out of one of those, as the cockpit is really cramped. I'm not even sure you could get in with a single parachute, let alone a reserve. It was as much as I could do to keep out of the way of the controls in the front while the pilot was flying the plane behind me.

Have you seen the size of modern rigs ? They really are tiny . I'm pretty sure Tiger Moths have been jumped in the past .

Should've asked the pilot, "If we fly upside-down will we fall out ?

To which he will answer, "Nooooooooo, we'll always be friends."
