English Axle Disk Brakes

Hi All,
Quick question, My car has has the sierra rear brake conversion made to an ford English axle.

What disks would it use, standard sierra items or something else?

I've seen a few different versions of these kits - what size are the discs ?

When I converted my axle on a car I had I used fiesta discs , it was a long time ago so I'm don't sure of the part no I'm afraid .

Outside diameter is 246mm

^^^ well its not a sierra disc then - they are 253mm (or 273mm on a cossie)


chances are its a fiesta one, but I don't know there sizes of the top of my head

Contrary to above I suspect you will find they are the front Sierra from the 1.3 (yes there was such a wimp of a thing!) and early fleet spec 1.6 , I think are the same as Mk3 Escort 100 & 1300

We use Mk3 Escort solids for the Sierra and VAG rear disc conversions.

Not sure but something tells me that the discs are 240 od.

Escort Mk3/4/5 all have a 240x10 solid in the base models. Be careful though, as the later cars have a different, less, set back distance of the disc centreline from the hub mount.

246mm is possibly a peugeot 307/405/partner rear disc istr they clear the hub flange without machining.

So on a bit of a whim (and before reading your replies) I passed a motorfactors this morning who had a pair of sierra discs in stock and quite predictably the don't fit...

While I could have easily knocked 6mm off the OD the inner section is the wrong size. I shall investigate your suggestions thanks all.

so do the online catalogues from the disc makers (most don't let you search by size thought)

also any of these catalogues don't cover every version / model that was ever made, just the ones that they make discs for now...

With the same car and the same set up I have just measure the disc dia as 240 to 245mm and a thickness of 10mm

I have a partially seized offside caliper that I need to replace so would also like to know what the set up is!

I found them... turns out they were Mk3 fiesta front discs

any idea of the rear calipers to go with the discs.....

Just looked at your pics of the of your re-build - great work!

What are the front brakes on your car .... mine are old 4-pot ap brakes and just spent the last few weeks re-refurbishing them

Thanks it's been a long time coming.

All 4 calipers are from a Sierra.
