timf - 22/10/03 at 01:11 PM

digging through my folders i found this.
might be useful for some one

Foundry Workshop
Melvyn Cockell
Unit TC10, Elm Estates
Elm Court
Capstone Road
Gillingham
Kent
ME7 3JQ
01634 404800
Castings in Aluminium, brass, bronze and Cast Iron. / Machining. This guy tells me that if you want to fit unusual engine and gearbox combinations, he can make a suitable bell housing. You give him one that fits the engine and another that fits the gearbox, tell him the distance between the two and he does the rest.

Tried the telephone number above and was advised that it was a private number nothing to do with Foundry Workshop.

I have been trying to locate the number on the internet but no joy so far.

Regards to all

Tomboys

It's not really a case of if it's been stolen and crashed, but how many times it's been stolen and crashed. Superb straight-six (the proper way for sixes) hand built motor. 360bhp as I recall and more importantly, more torque than you can shake a stick at.

Plenty of stuff on the net about them. But it's going to cost a bomb if it's not right

Cheers,

Neil.

JoelP
Steer WELL clear of the carlton.
One of my customers had one, twin sequential turbo's,full leather, supposedly the fastest 5 seater ever made(175mph).
He said it went like a rocket........on the rare occasions that he actually drove it, in between the periods it was off the road having it's g/box replaced
3 g/boxes later he he'd had enough & bought a BMW 740

JoelP - 31/10/03 at 10:55 PM

http://www.lotus-carlton.fsnet.co.uk/

just read this site and its clean put me off. read the bit about what to do when you buy one, he says do an MOT, a full service and timing chains regardless of what the service history says! sod that for a game of strip poker...

stick with the locost brigade i think!!

Volvorsport - 1/11/04 at 01:12 PM

wheres that lotus carlton for sale ? , ive just seen one repaired locally - and id give it a miss .

Its interesting about the bellhousings - anybody know what prices he charges ? if you were to do that - id go for a better box in the first place , like a getrag .

A type 9 may not like that much torque putting through it , if the input shaft is long enough you could just make an addapter plate - or even extend the input shaft . see the getrag box out of 325 E36 are really nice and cheap - but have an integral bellhosing . unlike the 265 box which is detachable .

ned - 1/11/04 at 01:45 PM

Volvosport, just incase you didn't notice, this thread is over a year old. I linked to it in the other thread for reference/info..

Ned.

Volvorsport - 1/11/04 at 02:02 PM

i shall keep myself to myself , anyway , do you know how much he charges for bellhousings , had any contact with him?

ned - 1/11/04 at 02:47 PM

My plans changed as they always do and I've not had any contact with the supplier mentioned above.

Ned.

Ian Pearson - 6/11/04 at 03:48 PM

I found his details on a site about a year ago, wrote them down and have since lost them. ISTR that £ 250.00 ish was mentioned for an adapter plate. Not sure if it's the same guy, but there can't be too many Melvyn's doing adapter plates in Kent?
