anyone used a porsche 911 engine in a locost?
Whats the going rate for a Porsche Flat 6 turbo?

At least 5k depending on the model it comes from.

Never heard of anyone using one in a locost. More suited to mid-rear mounting.

The Locost engine bay is much narrower at the bottom than the top- not massively suitable for a flat engine.

I think you'd be better off looking at the 928 (S4) engine/box (which may be included in the diff as in transaxle (anyone?).

The 928 is the only german car I would ever consider owning!

My dad owns a 928S4.

GREAT car. Hes currently doing a rebuild, cos he dropped a washer down one of the inlet ports. And guess, what, that cylinder happened to be stopped on its inlet stroke. WOOOOOOOOPS!!!!! He only realised when he went to start it and it clattered like hell. One bent valve, one marked piston, and a few disturbance failures like the head gaskets crumbling when he too the heads off (he decided to do both after he saw the state of the first gasket!).

The engine is ONE HELL OF AN ENGINE!!

The most incredible piece of engineering ive ever seen. However:

its huuuuge. Its INCREDIBLY EXPENSIVE (he spent £700 on gaskets, head bolts and stem seals).

320BHP though.

The only problem is that the gearbox on a 928 is on the back axle. The clutch is on the back of the engine, then the propshaft goes to the transaxle box & slipperdif unit, then half shafts to the rear hubs.

Having said that, an IRS system might work with a flared back end on the xmission tunnel. It does give good weight distribution: the 928 is virtually perfect 50/50.

I for one will be extremely interested to see some planning work on one of these setups.

Seriously, this engine makes the Rover V8 look small and inconsequential.

5 litre, 32 valve quad cam 90degree V8. All alloy, and its still bloody heavy. enough torque to pull the orient express.

Anyway, i'll shut up now. If anyone wants any info on the engine, U2U me.

if you want a silly engine, 300hp jag v12 go regularly for 100 - 200 quid or so on ebay

it was just that it was siting in the same shead as i was taking my donor car apart in, aswell as all the v8 rover engines that i am buying and some jag 8v and v12 that i just might buy. How much do you think i could get for the 911 engine?
I won't be using any of these engines as i got a unused 91 zetec silver top. Just tiring to help over kit car builders out there with some engines.
