plumbing --again

I've been through all the posts on plumbing in the cooling system and am now even more unsure !!!!!!

I'm using a x-flow engine with a micra rad --can anyone please give me the definitive on overflow tanks /swirl pots -whatever the technical terms are , that would best suit me.
I 've looked at PTM's site and have been following the pics here as a guide .Overflow tank to take connections instead of heater ? and any other venting of rad etc

Thanks in anticipation , Phil

I had to modify my Westfield cooling system (Xflow) as it kept throwing water out at high revs.
Originally it wasnt a 'sealed' system, fitting an expansion tank cured it.
Basically you should end up with the tank as the highest point in the cooling system, and the place to check your water level. It had an XR2 thermostat and integral pressure cap built in, which was changed to a flat cap. I 'T'd off the top hose with heater hose which ran to the bottom of the expansion bottle I found that there is an ideal adapter to do this on the bottom hose of a Mk3 Escort. The small pipe on the expansion tank was then plumbed in to the overflow off the XR2 thermostat housing (but I guess that a Micra rad will have a small breather pipe on it, take that to the expansion tank instead). Fit a pressure cap to the tank and that should be job done.
