IVA pass today - Leighton Buzzard

For anyone not following my build diary - probably most of you!

About a 6 week wait from application to time of test, first time I've been to Leighton Buzzard as Edmonton now closed. Very helpful tester, Andy Sharp, was of the type of "what do you need to do to get a pass" rather than, "so how can we make this one fail!". He'd not seen a Furore b4, a customer put one thro' LB a few years ago, but apparently Andy didn't test that one, so it was a lengthy test as he was obviously checking stuff with fresh eyes, but that is absolutely fair & as it should be

I knew emissions might be a bit of a song & dance as it's a 2016 engine & they have a no. of differences to the earlier ZZR1400 (which I already have maps for), but, as said, Andy was very helpful & although emissions failed at first attempt (not exactly a surprise), after the rest of test was done & all ok I was able to make a few adjustments with Power Commander & that sorted it. Only other minor discrepancy was that the brakes needed a bit of extra bedding in to get up to required standard (new pads & discs)

All in all would recommend LB as being reasonably easy to get to & a helpful tester

As you can see the car is very much at IVA as you would see it on the road, just need to get registration sorted now!

I no longer run Furore Products or Furore Cars Ltd, but would still highly recommend them for Acewell dashes, projector headlights, dominator headlights, indicators, mirrors etc, best prices in the UK! Take a look at http://www.furoreproducts.co.uk/ or find more parts on Ebay, user names furoreltd & furoreproducts, discounts available for LCB users.
Don't forget Stainless Steel Braided brake hoses, made to your exact requirements in any of around 16 colours. http://shop.ebay.co.uk/furoreproducts/m.html?_dmd=1&_ipg=50&_sop=12&_rdc=1

TBH given the weather today I was quite glad I had it on the trailer! I have driven Other Furore's on those roads in the past tho' - you do tend to get a few looks!

Well done Russ. Not sure if LB is further than Norwich ( Dennis ) but good to know there is another sensible option available in South East. I seem to remember Kent being a bit of a no go area.

Well done Russ - have followed your build sporadically and am glad to see a positive result after such a short (relatively) time for your build

I took mine through gillingham (no idea if it is still there) this is where caterham and fisher (plus aeon I think) took there's so used to seeing kit cars, Southampton mainly dealt with jap imports though. That was a while ago (2005), day I was there the two cars behind me were a caterham customer duratec 190 and a factory r500, they guys said the duratec was by far the better car, r500 struggled to get through emissions and popped and banged its way through the test.

I had experience of Gillingham about 6 years ago, most dreadful test I have ever had the misfortune to witness, the tester just made rules up as he went along, I did manage to get Vosa to put him straight on a couple of things, but he actually said to me "if it's not a Caterham, it NEVER passes first time". I still remember his name, tho' won't post it publicly, but if anyone wants to PM me, might be handy to know if he's still around.

I had one of the guys from Yeading (Nr Heathrow) do a retest for me at Edmonton when they'd had staff go off sick & he was perfectly reasonable, so it's not just a South of the Thames thing!

Unfortunately it's a bit like apples in a barrel, it only takes one rotten tester to ruin a station for everyone!

I think Norwich may be similar distance, but worse roads to get there, LB was 70 miles each way for me from Benfleet, took about an hour & half

congratulations - looking forward to seeing it with the final artwork

6 weeks has to be some kind of record too? What is the quickest build and IVA time on here?

I think you may have misunderstood, the 6 weeks was from IVA application to the date of test, the actual build took 45 days, tho' they were usually only around 5 to 6 hour days & some were just half days, probably about 220 hours in the build itself

Customer has just sent me a mockup pic of how the car should look with the graphics, we have a few tweaks to do yet whilst he's applying for registration, but I think it should look absolutely brilliant & will certainly turn a few heads!
