Mine were the same as well. Of note I sourced overhaul kits from my local Ford main dealer. The kits included sachets of grease as well as new metal cans to cover the main part of the joint. To do the job properly you're supposed to fully dismantle the joint and remove the metal cans. Doing it this was means you can simply slide the new rubber bellows into place - they don't have to be stretched over the joint or worse still glued together around the joint.

Note that you have to peen the new metal cans closed on the joint. This part of the the job was a little tricky as you have to force and hold the joint closed while you peen the can closed. DON'T FORGET TO FIT NEW O-RINGS BETWEEN THE CAN AND THE JOINT TO STOP LEAKS! Overall the job took a little time, but was satisfying and they never leaked afterwards for me either.

All that said, if faced with the job again, I'd look at the cost of an exchange pair of drive shafts with all that work already done for you. I'll bet they're not that expensive to buy.

IIRC about £10 each. 2 per drive shaft so 4 all together or~ £40.

Couple of hours work to get them done.
