Shock Lengths and Spring Rates
flak monkey - 27/2/19 at 01:17 PM

Can anyone confirm if the shock lengths and spring rates listed in the Avon build book are correct?

Front - 250lb 8" long
11.75" open
9.25" closed (10.25" with bump stop)

Rear - 180lb 10" long
13.75" open
10.25" closed (11.25" with bump stop)

Thanks!

Can't comment directly on the Avon but I've just ordered some shocks for my Haynes - they're the same length front and back and i'm using 14" open from Protech - (which comes in at 10.75" closed with the bump stop fitted).

Mine are all to be fitted with an 8" spring, and having held one in my hand and measured the open/closed lengths without a spring fitted, I can see that allows for the spring seat to sit around middway along the shock body if it were set to about 1" droop / 2" bump.

So i'm a bit surprised by 11.75" shock / 8" spring and 13.75" shock / 10" spring?

Don't have an Avon, but all the ones I have seen look to have around 25mm shock travel on the front!. I have also seen a few
that have had the top front shock mount lifted around 35mm and longer wishbones?

Hi there,

I have an Avon & also a parts & price list from tiger. The front springs are 8 inch long & 250lb. The rears are 10 inch long & are listed as 200lb on the price list i have.

Hope this helps.

Front will depend on engine weight surely?

Rear I wouldn't go for 180lb if it's mainly for road use,I'm running 200lb and still can get the car to bottom out on our crap roads.

Not a tiger granted, but my m8 with a Westfield has also struggled with springs below 200lb on the road, especially with a passenger.
