Not used one but on full power it will draw 25amps so your need a decent size battery and alternator with a good charge rate
300w may be ok for defrosting a windscreen, but won't do much to heat a driver/passenger.....
Not sure there is much advantage over the little plug-in versions apart from the fact it looks more correct. I also doubt there is much quality in it
either...
For the price it may be worth buying one anyway, but I wont be, as I took the heater out of my car years ago, as it was as usefull as an ashtray on a
motorbike

Is this for your RX8 project - if so surely it has an adequate heater in it already?
I guess plumbing it in to the VAG motor may be a task, but can't be impossible.
It's for the VAG rx8 project I'm doing. It's just for keeping the window clear on track. The standard rx8 unit had to be removed to
allow for the engine to be pushed back as far as I wanted. Was looking at running a small water micro heater, but thought this might be an easier
solution.

Maybe not the cheapest option, but if you can have a heated windscreen fitted they work extremely well.

Has anyone fitted a vent to the bulkhead which can be opened to let warm air from the engine bay in?

It could. Equally, some of the micro heaters designed for kit cars sit inside the engine bay and take heat from there via a radiator to heat it further. I've personally never been very happy with that idea which is why I designed my own. PC water cooling radiator, 1A 12v centrifugal fan and voila.
Several air cooled cars run heaters off the exhaust.

Having no engine in the front, I have an advantage.
I take radiator warmed air, through a PC cooling "radiator" with a ex HP Server fan into the cockpit.
Surely there shouldn't be any excess fumes.. Unless the exhaust has a leak, where would it come from?

Not sure but I think I read somewhere that for IVA the heater wasn't allowed to draw any air from the engine bay?
