I'm sure this was posted up earlier in the year, buggered if I can find it.

Monday July 6th, Cadwell park with Easytrack.

There are allready a few of us from here booked on, plus a growing number of kits and cats. It's shaping up to be a good entry.
Open pitlane, 105db, £149
Come on in!

Nice one!

Last time we camped there, they charged a fiver per person on the gate. There are toilets and showers available. Not sure about electic hook up if you need it...

I'm near Bishop Auckland. Wife's Kentish. How are you coping with the language barrier? Stone the bleeding crows, Gordon Bennet etc etc

Andy D - 18/6/09 at 07:24 AM

adithorp - 18/6/09 at 09:31 AM

All we need now is some decent weather, I'm really looking forward to it.

Pete's racing his Civic at Cadwell this Sunday, so he should be well practiced for the trackday.

eccsmk - 25/6/09 at 02:19 PM

i'll be coming in the indy but NOT! on the track!!

i might even wash it before then too

Cheers Andy, but to be honest I think the noise of the car makes it look like it was going faster than I actually am ,still only managed a 1m 48s on my best lap,but we had to go slow through the old hair pin,due to BMW removing the armco down there, and the Ultima driver was not the best in the world.

And Martin don't worry about how fast or slow you are,I have found at every trackday Ive done, there's always someone who is a better driver me,and with a faster car than me,or a combination of both those things, the main thing is drive within your limits, watch your mirrors, and enjoy yourself.

eccsmk - 26/6/09 at 07:25 PM

ill try a nice quiet evening session before an open pit lane day just to get used to it.
also ive found myself some lovely r888's
which if nothing else will make me feel a little more confident.

PAUL FISHER - 27/6/09 at 03:44 PM

Probably best mate, break yourself in gently

Andy D - 2/7/09 at 08:19 AM

Have we been given the times for signing on and safety briefing? Have checked through the Easytrack website, and can only find a "typical" time of 08-40 for the briefing..

Weather forecast is showing a little moisture through the day.. I hope I dont have to fit the antique 888s, cant imagine they'll have much grip in the wet!

Bring on the heatwave!

eccsmk - 2/7/09 at 02:56 PM

just looked on the met office site
the nearest location i can get to cadwell is boston
altho they do have an observation site at coningsby but it only gives the next 24 hours

OK, couldn't find the email...

Well, weather's still looking a bit dampish. If it stays wet, I can see us kit car drivers getting wupped by a pair of chavved up Clios.

gingerprince - 3/7/09 at 08:09 AM

Desperately hoping for dry track. Last time I was at Cadwell it was damp all day and self-preservation prevented me enjoying the track to the full. And with light RWD car against heavier FWD cars I was keeping up but couldn't pass.

The problem with days like that, is the wet grass. If you do go off, you wont stop till something stops you!

Here's hoping for at least a dry session or two..

Yes,and don't forget at Cadwell, you don't even need to be going round a corner to crash this happened last time we went to Cadwell in the wet

That's a horror!
Funnily enough, my very first visit to Cadwell was like that. They shut off the mountain half of the circuit because of the satnding water on the straight.

I've just been reading through and signing my forms for Cadwell tomorrow, and notice that as well as the normal 105dBA static test, there's a 98dBA drive-by test?!?! That's as strict as Donington which is a big no-no for BEC's!

Is this a recent thing? I certainly don't recall that 2 years ago!

eccsmk - 5/7/09 at 09:05 PM

i wouldnt worry after the noise thats been there for the last 2 weekends a BEC is nothing.
oh and the DB meter usually hides by the start finish straight

eccsmk - 6/7/09 at 05:56 PM

can i just say thank you to all the folks i met today it was nice to put some more names to faces
and thank you to Andy D for the vid of my skid lid

so how did you all get on

eccsmk - 6/7/09 at 06:33 PM

i'll let everyone tell their stories of their day at cadwell but i will say it was rather wet

welderman - 6/7/09 at 06:37 PM

So Paul and Chris in the tin tops were all dry and warm, lol.
I will await all the responses, did you end up on track in your car?.

eccsmk - 6/7/09 at 06:46 PM

i didnt even risk taking it mate it rained all morning so took the van.

chris and paul with their heaters and wipers they went well.

Just had a look at the video footage I got of the back of your crash helmet..

Will get some pics downloaded and pop back later.

eccsmk - 6/7/09 at 08:11 PM

doh sorry andy
if you had slowed down it would have made it easier.

Andy D - 6/7/09 at 08:37 PM

OK, twas a funny old day!.. First of all a huge thankyou to all the folks that persevered with my broken exhaust collector. I was ready to give up on it and call it a day. Not sure who it was that claimed to finally get the thing off, there were hands and hammers flying all over the place, but well done!
We got a few dry runs in between rectification and monsoon like rain showers, so not too bad in the end.
Not much video to choose from but I'm sure Pete will manage to cobble something together.

Few pics, may get some more up tomorrow.

I'll let Adrian explain the last two.

welderman - 6/7/09 at 09:05 PM

cant do that, poor chap will have to tell all, come on Adrian mate, uncle Joe's all ears, i wont tell a soul, unless you post it on here that is.

Joe

adithorp - 6/7/09 at 09:25 PM

Well I spent the morning failing to get to grips with the circuit and getting mugged by Clio's and sheltering from the rain in MK's circus tent (full of clowns according to some).
Then was just starting to get it sussed after lunch when I came over the blind crest on the back of the circuit at 115mph to find torrential rain in the braking zone. Got away with it and just about got back to the pits before the car filled up. Bigfoot spent the rest of the day wearing just a rain suit 'cos everything else was wet.
Then when it dried up I had a 45min session when I was going pretty well. Then it rained again as I came in with a dry tank. Once it dried out I went out for the last go and the track was drying but I took it easy. End of the first lap and I lit up the back wheels cresting the "mountain", spun it, caught it, lost it, almost caught it, got on the 30' grass bank and slid down and kissed the barrier. Looks like the bonnet is trashed but not a lot more. Could have been worse.
I think the weather could be described as "changable"! Did 100 miles despite the weather breaks.

adrian

welderman - 6/7/09 at 10:16 PM

yep, my best mate is very good with GRP, Adrian, send me some pictures and i will get him to look at them.
Its always the last lap thing, or just one more and i will call it a night sort of situation, well its a car mate, as long as your walking and erm, not to pi$$ed off, you be ok.

no worries, it'ill polish out , will ask Pete tomorrow if he fancies a trip up to yours Adrian, he will tell you there and then ye or ney.

adithorp - 6/7/09 at 11:18 PM

I didn't lift the bonnet 'cos I didn't want to not be able to shut it again. It bulged up about 6" on impact. Think the webs where the hinge mounts have shattered, bonnet pins in pods have taken a beating, o/s wheelarch lip/edge has cracks and the top of the arch in the picture is the worst bit. Looks like the rad is untouched and the hinge frame looks OK from what I can see, so can't see anything else being damaged behind them. Drove back OK to the pits after being pulled off the banking. Just the bonnet fouled the wheel on right lock.

adrian

welderman - 7/7/09 at 07:21 AM

suppose you will know more today, give us a shout if you think its worth repairing mate. How are the side pods where the pins go?.
But as before your still walking etc.

I should have really got the camera out when it rained, boy did it rain!

Was wondering out how the hellfire car and pal got on, on the drive home. We drove through some horrendous rain on the M62 or M18..

welderman - 7/7/09 at 10:17 AM

ye some wet shots would have been good, would have given us lot back here something to go off, from the input ive had it RAINED QUICK AND ALOT !.
Then dry again.

Good god that was a bit moist, wasn't it?! I could only see that I was still in my lane thanks to the cats eyes protruding above the canal! Surprisingly when I got home the MK still actually started despite the deluge of water my wiring must have taken on!

Just had a quick look through my video. Sadly it seems that for most of the day my front-facing camera lens was steamed up (not surprising really it wasn't covered up all day!) so there's not much to work with

Was a shame too really, when the track was wet I found I just had to pussyfoot around (especially under the trees, it was like ice!) I had one good session when the track had dried out, but came in early because my oil light came on - turns out I had oil temp alarm set too low so could have stayed out longer. 10 minutes later it p1ssed it down so that was that for dry running!

eccsmk - 7/7/09 at 04:33 PM

i got to work today and realised my chisels were blunt
phil must have given the bolster some stick as its the worst of the lot.

are there any pics of the northern rugby team doing there bit for quickfit

richard, but its not used very often

had a cracking weekend overall, had a good drive down the coast and local countryside on sunday finding some nice stretches of road of a blast and got a little sunburnt.
really enjoyed the track despite the weather and will definatly return, well worth the 4 hour drive there.
was out not long after dinner when it started to rain a little but stupidly thought i would do another lap and see what it did, just past the pit lane the heavens opened. that lap felt like 10 minutes and i could feel the water collecting in my seat. we wouldn't of been any wetter if we had jumped in a lake.

had a good long session when it dried back out again and started to get a bit quicker but still being a bit cautious. saw a couple of people spin and it was quite scary how far they traveled on the wet grass.

hopefully wont be to bad to fix the car adrian.
had they managed to get that striker on a trailer when you left? looked to be a few of them working on it when i left

The damaged Striker was still there, abandoned, when I left so I guess they were coming back for it.

I'd say even if it was bone dry, Paul would still be passing most of those cars. Having diven Pete's racing Civic in the wet, I reckon FWD is much more predictable in those conditions though. Sad but true...

Paul, are you coming through to Croft this weekend for the racing?

Andy D - 8/7/09 at 02:38 PM

Another Clio (I think) not going quite so well

PAUL FISHER - 8/7/09 at 10:26 PM

What you can see from your video Simon,to say you have not driven the track much at all, your lines around the track look spot to me,you need to go back now on a dry day,Ive no doubt then you will be putting in some quick lap times

I think after driving many laps around cadwell in BEC's and now the Clio, there would not be alot in it,but when wet a well driven BEC should be quicker than a 172 Clio, but the level of driver skill to pedal the BEC around quicker than the Clio, would need to be far greater,as AndyD says the FWD cars are more predictable in the wet, they tend to go into understeer, but as you know the BEC's go into oversteer which is alot harder to control, while still keeping the car moving forward at the same time.

Cheers Paul. Only think I wasn't sure about my lines is coming out of Chris (ooo err!) I tend to drift out slowly towards the outside in time for the turn in for the gooseneck, whereas a lot of other videos I've watched, yours included hug the inside and then go towards the outside near the end of chris before the next turn-in. I guess that's the quicker way because it's a long opening turn so I'll give it a go next time.

Desperate to do a dry day there though. When it's even slightly damp and due to the priximity of hard things to hit, I'm braking waaay too early and gently for corners. I just need a good run on dry track to practice having some balls to attack

Yes Simon,I always think chris's curve is a difficult one with it being such a long and fast corner,if you don't get it right a lot of time can be lost, but I think so long as you get right over to the left as you did before the goose neck, you can't go far wrong, but it sounds like you have caught the Cadwell bug you will not be able to leave it alone now

Yes you will have to get yourself down to Cadwell, best circuit Ive driven and I never get bored of it
Steve took me out in the S2000 Indy R,what a car, they are a cracking engine, dare I say car engines could be the future you know,it was his 1st time on circuit with it,but we were hitting some incredible speeds down the straights

eccsmk - 9/7/09 at 08:04 PM

how did Danny K get on in the clio??

chris mason - 10/7/09 at 07:53 AM

Thought i may as well put a video up of my spin

Adi's appears at the begining, and the rest of time is spent waiting for the orange Mnr to move over

why you shouldn't ride the Kerbs in the wet

and here's another video when things were a little drier, the track still greasy through the woodland section though.

Drier Laps

Chris

Andy D - 10/7/09 at 08:04 AM

Our video efforts are up on the tube now. Rear facing camera for a change and some outside footage at the end.

Cheers, Chris! First you mug me in a clio...then you show the whole world!

Boy, was I slow at first. At least the speed was a bit more respectable in the afternoon (well most of it) but of course, nobody has footage of that.

There's a clip of your car going well through Hall bends, from the outside at the end of our vid. Posted it up a few pages ago, but I think it's got lost.
