Citreon Saxo
coozer - 28/7/06 at 07:39 PM

Not sure where to put this BUT...

I'm considering using the knowledge gained to put the rear wheel drive mechanics from a Sierra under the modded shell of a Citreon Saxo....

The recent 206 conversion in PCC has wet my appetite. Yummy.

Saxo with RWD and 2L Pinto?? Any thoughts?

DIY Si - 28/7/06 at 07:42 PM

It'll annoy the boy racers, but why a saxo?

coozer - 28/7/06 at 07:47 PM

Why a Saxo... Well, dare I say a good looking car??

Contempery styling compared to the new crop and should be cheap for a 1.1 donor.

Mmmmm, you sure on that bit? Fair point on the cheap donor, but you'll have to change everything inside the shell. And probably quite a bit of the shell. Id've thought it was a bit flimsy for something like that. But then a big cage'll sort that bit.

why a pinto??

coozer - 28/7/06 at 07:58 PM

Looks are in the eye of the beholder... My mate at work thinks Paris Hilton is a dog, mind he does wear glasses!

Junking the carpets and lower floor trim, Yes. The upper dash should remain. The tranny tunnel will have to be enlarged, the rear floor in boot made to accept a small space frame to carry the diff and wishbone points. That will mean a custom fuel tank in the boot. Should produce a nice short wheel base, tail happy pose mobile

What the hell am I talking about? I'm over 40 for gods sake! Pose Mobile!!

A nice rwd drivers car is what I meant to say.

If you're going to that much hassle, may I suggest fitting a proper engine? Either a nice big bike engine, or something like a 2 litre vtec/s2000. Oh, and Paris IS a dog, and a damn thin one at that!

Well just cheap 2.0L Sierra donr so I can use the Sierra front cross member without having to bugger about too much. A Zetec would be better but bit more tricky with modded sumps etc

coozer - 28/7/06 at 08:02 PM

Bike engine... now there is a superb idea

Anyone know the gross weight of a Saxo?

DIY Si - 28/7/06 at 08:07 PM

No idea but Z cars reckon 675kg with an R1. That's curb weigh too. Don't know what they strip out though, but I'd imagine most of everything.
Make that 830-850 kg.

I'm investigating putting a 3.0 ltr V6 from the Pug 406 into the back of a 106 at the moment. Have seen 106 XSi's go for £250 on ebay with a blown engine or gearbox and complete 406 V6's go for £450.

As someone once mentioned in PPC, I don't think there is much point in building something you can buy. My wifes 1.6 ltr 106 XSi puts out (1.6 L (1587 cc) TU5 I4, 120 PS (118 hp/88 kW) and 107 ft·lbf (145 N·m)) which is pretty comparable to a Pinto. Admittedly it does suffer a bit of torque steer and a a bit of wheelspin from the line which you'd cure by going rwd. Spending the sort of cash you'd spend on the conversion to Pinto power you could get that 118 hp up to 140 bhp and probably end up with a faster car?

Cheers

Mike

It can't be much different to the MK3-6 Escort RWD conversions done by rally fans, there are a few of those running round. Here's one

Cheap Saxos aren't necessarily the smallest engined ones....insurance cost is a big factor for youngsters.

Oh, and Paris Hilton is just nasty.

coozer - 29/7/06 at 10:32 AM

Mike, your missing my point. Why build a locost when you can just buy a Viper?

I want to build a rwd car that drives excellent and is a one off. Its all about building the car into something you want because you cant buy it.

Paris Hilton is so attractive its unreal. It might not be her face, chassis looks and brain. She's not bad looking, a bit thick maybe, but think about how much money she has now, and how much she will be getting!

I wouldn't be bothering with a kit car at all. Straight down to Gaydon to see my V12 Vanquish being built!

Why not go really manic, get a cosmetically challenged Fiat 500 and get a 2.0TC 4x4 Sierra and mate the two (and I dont mean a 498cc rear engined sierra!!)

Nobody wants the 4x4 sierra's and a 500 shell with no chance of an MOT is almost worthless, and you could sell the mechanical for a fair chunk.

130bhp 4x4 500, weighing about 600kg's, now that would be fun, and very different

Without money she is a talentless, ferret-faced, stick-woman with a nasty streak.

No offence, Paris.
(..and that's another thing, she's got a boys name! )

Peteff - 29/7/06 at 03:50 PM

I wouldn't kick her out of bed for farting, and Paris isn't a boy's name it's a city, probably very apt as a million+ people go through Paris every week

Hehehe. She is a right dog. If anyone has seen the video she made theres not much effort put into it..

A 400bhp cossie in a saxo would be great....

FlansS14 - 31/7/06 at 03:35 PM

If you dropped a 140bhp pinto in it and made it rwd it would be no quicker than the VTS. belive me they handle very well..

personaly if i was doing mine again i'd ust the Vag engine in the back with a transaxle. 250-280 bhp easily should be fun...
