Can anyone identify the car which has this amateurish looking aluminium work at the front end? Rescued attachment Cobbled together.jpg

Going by the plastic under the bumper reinforcer, the shape of the wing liner, edge of wing and convoluted wiring shroud, im going for Peugeot 407, but although i work for them and have had experience in parts, now warranty i can't say i have seen that cage design.

That looks like an intercooler pipe aswell. So something nice and quick.

Mark Allanson - 27/11/07 at 09:42 PM

It is a production car, a new Audi TT. I was so staggered that it had structures on it that would be critised on a locost that I had to take a photo. I would rather build my own! Rescued attachment IMG_7342.jpg

Minicooper@work - 28/11/07 at 08:45 AM

I believe that's a homemade effort to fix a previous broken frontend, no way is that a production item

Cheers
David

No, sorry, it is a fresh out of the box new TT, it got rolled on by a cow in a cornish lane in its first few weeks of life (the car, not the cow!)

rusty nuts - 28/11/07 at 07:38 PM

Do I get a prize for being the first to get it right?

Hopefully the prize isn't an offer from Audi to weld your Locost

To play devil's advocate...

To be fair it's a completely non-structural frame that exists soley to hang some gubins and an undertray on. They should be applauded for using a lightweight hand-made tubular structure for such an application where GM, Ford, etc would all use half a tonne of pressed steel, off of which all the thin-sheet monkey-metal brackets would rust in a few years.

Nice to see craftsmanship back in production cars (even if it was made by a kid on work experience who'd never used a hacksaw before, let alone a TIG welder).
