My Winter Upgrade 2011
Nash - 25/11/11 at 08:36 PM

Hi all,
I thought some of you may find my Winter Upgrade work of interest. I'm posting it on the SKCC site as thats were I'm most active. Just using the link here so I don't have to post it in two places.

Anyway I'll stop waffling. Hope it is of interest.

for a moment there i thought you'd done some work on the car

it'ss be nice to see how the dash works out

lewis - 25/11/11 at 08:47 PM

Wow lots of work going on there! I take it the wrap colour will be yellow ish then ;-) look forward to seeing it finished.

Nash - 25/11/11 at 08:56 PM

How very dare you I'm doing almost all of the work but I am using Powerspeeds facilities (which is a godsend). They are doing some parts of the fabrication (mostly the Tig welding) but to keep the overall cost down I'm doing the work.

The two key bits for me (and the bits I'm excited about) are the CSR style dashboard and the Vinyl Wrap. I will finish stripping the car tomorrow ready for it to go into the Vinyl wrap workshop on Monday. Three days later it will emerge with its new skin. All I have to do then is put it all back together.

While its stripped I am refurbing all four corners, rose joints, poly bushes. Powder coating the cage, wishbones, new dash structure and rack extensions.

Lewis, no the wrap is not yellow, its........... a suprise

Looking forward to seeing the vinyl wrap completed.
Hope you've gone for something truly outrageous, like a Reg Mombassa designed Mambo shirt.

Nash - 26/11/11 at 08:51 PM

You have clearly been looking at my designs Sir

"Lost Weekend" would be truly whacky Neil.
It'd certainly be a case of 'once seen, never forgotten.'

Nash - 7/12/11 at 09:16 PM

OK good people I have now wrapped the car and made a major step forward on the CSR "style" dash. You can check out the detail here:

Coopz - 9/12/11 at 08:44 PM

Why does it remind me of batman That looks superb, very cool and different..Is it heavy?

Nash - 9/12/11 at 09:09 PM

No, the tube is 16swg thin wall and the inserts are a ali / composite. Its not structural so doesn't need to be "heavy". I haven't weighed it but its easy to lift in one hand.

scootz - 9/12/11 at 09:13 PM

I like that!

bobinspain - 10/12/11 at 09:38 AM

leeswesty - 17/12/11 at 08:46 PM

Done it mate thanks.

Nash - 18/12/11 at 07:13 PM

I spent 4 hours today dressing threads and putting the front end back together. To say it was a pain would be rhe understatement of the year. I was hoping to make the final cut outs today so I can take the dash to rhe uphosterer tomorrow but that looks lost now.

I can see this dragging over the holiday.

jabbahutt - 20/12/11 at 08:08 AM

You MUST have wings on the back. (Bat shaped of course).

fullpint - 7/1/12 at 07:35 PM

Dash is looking well tasty Neil.. Look forward to seeing more of your handy work..

Nash - 9/1/12 at 08:20 PM

Quick update, tonight I replaced the chome panhead setscrews with black ones to blend in better with the CF vinyl. I ran the fuel lines and wired in the digidash, cut the Ali composite and shaped the tunnel sides. Although I still need to final shape the edging and put the edging trim on but I can't until the CF vinyl arrived from the bay later this week. Finally I fitted the zorst back having repacked it and swagged the joints a little to ake it a better fit.

Hopefully tomorrow evening I will wire in the rest of the guages in and then I can bolt the dash in place and start finishing off the long list of little assembly jobs.

cheers........ Neil

bobinspain - 9/1/12 at 09:03 PM

Neil,
Your note by your username put me in mind of a joke by the US comedian Steven Wright.

Whenever I pick up someone hitchhiking, I always like to wait for a few minutes before I say anything to them. Then I say, "put your seatbelt on----I want to try something I saw in a cartoon, but I'm pretty sure I can pull it off." :
